@Missknicole:   Ask to try different silhouettes, a variety of materials and perhaps color.   I’d also suggest *not* buying a dress on your first visit – look in other shops and try different designers before committing.   Take a water bottle.  🙂

Does the salon allow photos?  I was amazed how different the dresses looked on me vs. in a photo.

Is anyone going with you?

@Missknicole:  Make sure that your hair and makeup look good. The first time I went dress shopping I didn’t think I looked pretty in anything. I honestly think that it was because I had only a little makeup on and my hair was in a ponytail.

I second what PP said about not buying a dress right away. The second shop I went to, there was a dress I loved but I didn’t buy it. By the next day I didn’t like anything about it. I’m so glad I didn’t buy it just because I was excited.

Make sure you wear real underwear. The consultant will most likely be in the room helping you change. Unless you’re comfortable with her seeing you in a thong, you shouldn’t wear one.

Wear a strapless bra. Everything will look weird with hot pink bra straps poking out!

Don’t eliminate anything without trying it (or something similar.) I went in thinking I wanted a sleek satin dress. When I finally was talked into trying something completely different, I realized that I actually loved it!

Good luck! Hope you have so much fun!
