My MUA was talking about using pore strips (for areas prone to blackheads) but I’ve always heard that they were bad for your skin (since they rip the gunk out of our pores).
Anyone use them and/or know if they are damaging to your skin?

I dont think they are…i use them and they work fine. No damage noticed:)

I’ve used them a few times. I’m not sure if they are bad for your skin.. it’s kinda like ripping a band-aid off. I made the mistake of putting one on my nose over a pimple and it kinda ripped it off and started bleeding. It also leaves nasty residue all over your face. I don’t recommend them, but I don’t really know if they are “damaging”. It does say not to use if you have really sensitive skin or a sunburn or spider veins.. so it probably will irritate these things even more.
ETA – I used Biore. And I don’t recommend them because it didn’t really seem to remove any gunk in my pores, but I also didn’t have huge blackheads or anything.. I could just see that my pores were a bit clogged. It might make a more dramatic difference for different people.

Also – for those that use them: any favorite brands??

I’ve never had any problems with them. I’m a big fan of Biore.

I’ve used them, and while the strips always seemed to pull “stuff” out of my pores, I didn’t see a noticeable difference in my skin. It was a little disappointing. I’ve used Biore and Ponds.

They can actually rip your skin off, so definitely follow the directions. Also, I prefer to steam my face first, or do it right after a shower, because then your pores are open and the gunk will come out easier.
I’ve only ever used Biore, I prefer to go name brand for things like that

I don’t think they’re damaging provided you use as directed. I can’t imagine they are good to use daily or even weekly. I use them every couple of months, usually when I start noticing blackheads on my nose. I find they work really well!
I agree with PPs, Biore is the best!

I used to use them all the time (Biore) until I started seeing an esthetician on a regular basis. She was the one that told me they weren’t a good idea and actually encouraged more breakouts and black heads as they peeled off the layers your skin (or something to that affect).
Anyway I stopped using them based on her advice.

I use the Biore strips on my face and on my FI’s. We do it together and then compare who has the nastier strip.
I think they work wonderfully.

They don’t work for me so I no longer use them. I did get a red nose for hours after though.

umm I don’t think they work. I never really saw a difference.

I usually buy a pack once a year because I like to have them on hand if I start to notice the blackheads on my nose getting out of hand. I use them probably once every three or four months, and I really like them. They hurt to pull off, but they do a good job, and I don’t think they’re damaging my skin.

My mom swears by her Biore strips. She uses them and they pull all kinds of ick from the sides of her nose. I’m thinking of buying a box for Darling Husband…I’m sure he will love to find them in his stocking!
I WISH I could use them, but both times I tried, they left a perfectly shaped dark purple impression of a Biore strip across my nose. Both times, it took several days to fade — talk about embarassing. So if you have really sensitive or delicate skin, you might want to be careful with them.
