Has anybody had, or is anyone planning, a wedding in a Portland Park. I’m thinking about Mt Tabor, but was wondering how arduous the permit process is.
And if you’ve had a wedding or event in a park, how tough are they on noise? Can you have a DJ/Music loud enough to feel like a party late into the night?

I considered Mt. Tabor but decided against it because it sounded like I couldn’t have music playing late and loud. But I could have misunderstood the information I got. Also, since I wanted to have my ceremony and reception in the same place and wanted to serve alcohol, it wasn’t a good choice since I believe Portland Parks does not permit alcohol. Good luck!

It depends on the the park whether or not you can have alcohol. At first we were going to have ours at Hoyt Arboretum, then a Rose Garden in NE Portland, but we decided we wanted more privacy than that and we would pay for it. But from what I understand the permit process isn’t too hard, but the venues book up FAST. You need to be at the office on Jan 1st or whatever that first monday of the year is to apply for your permits. So most good days are probably booked. I have found the people on the phones for Parks and rec are pretty helpful though 🙂 Good luck!

i think the noise level has to follow the city of portland standards- if the sound/music can be heard clearly from more than 50 feet away your in violation. I would call the general number for Portland Park and Rec and ask to be 100% on it. Or if you have hired your DJ already ask if they have had an event at Mt. Tabor and see if they know any thing.
