I haven’t heard this. I’ve heard that the frequency and timing of sex is what matters bc either female or male sperm survives longer so it varies with that. But of course, it is never a gaurantee and one can’t really control the outcome.

I heard that it depends on what time in your ovulation (beginning or end) you conceive. Doing it in a certain position to get a specific gender sounds silly to me.

I think the position thing is a myth, but i think there is some science behind the timing bit. I could be remembering totally wrong, but I think that I’ve heard that the “female” sperm are bigger and slower but live longer, while the “male” sperm are smaller and faster but die sooner. So if you want a girl I think you’re supposed to do it a like a day or two before you ovulate because the male sperm will have died and the female sperm will be hanging out waiting to impregnate you, while if you do it after you’ve already ovulated its more likely you’ll get a boy because the male sperm are quicker to the prize.

If I’m remembering that wrong its somewhat embarrassing bc that is pretty detailed… lol

Kind of. It’s not just “do this position and get a boy, do this and get a girl” though. There’s a lot of science behind it. But let me explain, if you care for a long-winded explanation (and let’s face it, all good science that actually works is kind of complex…)

Basically, the sperm (Y) that make little boys are very fast, but they die sooner than the sperm (X) that make little girls. So if you’ve just ovulated a nice fresh egg, it’s more likely that an Y-sperm will get to that egg more quickly and you’ll have a boy. Likewise, if you have sex two days before you ovulate and don’t have sex again, the Y-sperm will have died and the X-sperm, the survivors, will find that egg and make you a little girl.

Now, some other things effect this all, just to confuse you more. X-sperm can survive in more acidic environments than Y-sperm can. Besides douching yourself with weird things, which I don’t recommend, there’s not a lot you can do. There are a lot of doctors who say that female orgasms help release a secretion from the woman that is alkaline – the opposite of acid – and thus would help the Y-sperm and help you have a boy. They say if you want a girl, one thing to do that can help is to try to resist climaxing during that particular round of sex, because that will help keep the vagina acidic.

Okay, finally, the positions. The environment of the vagina is a little acidic, meaning that it’s most friendly to the X-sperms and having girls. BUT, up by the cervix, it’s a little less acidic. If you get sperm deposited right up on the cervix, it’s going to help those Y-sperm live, and they also won’t get “tired” swimming to the egg. Remember, they’re fast but they don’t have endurance. So if you want a boy, you should choose a deep-penetration position like (I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is in the name of science – please don’t report me!) … doggy style. And if you want a girl, you should opt for something where your partner ejaculates not quite so deep in your body, so that the Y-sperm will tire out and the X-sperm will have a chance.

Ultimately, though, position is just a little bit of extra insurance. What’s really going to make the difference is timing. If you want a girl, have sex 2-3 days before ovulation and don’t have sex again. If you want a boy, don’t have sex before ovulation, and then on or after ovulation, have sex.

Lastly, and I have to say it, don’t deprive yourself of having a baby at all by playing around with these things too much. Do what you can and leave the rest up to God or the Creator if you believe in such things, or, if you prefer, fate or the universe. Life is life!

That is very fascinating! I would be interested to hear from mothers who know the sex of their children to see how much of the factors Lapeaudesoie mentioned line up.

I’m guessing it’s probably just best to conceive whatever is willing to establish itself as a life form. lol

@MissGreen: I know! I really have a hankering for a little girl. But I’m so afraid that I’ll do all that rigmarole I described above and end up with no baby at all because all the sperm die or something – that my body’s plan for me is to conceive just little boys and I’ll be playing with fire.

Want to hear something weird? EVERY SINGLE ONE of my classmates from my all-girls’ high school has had nothing but sons. How is this even statistically possible? Maybe they’re all doing it in kinky positions…hmm…

Very interesting. I’d be tempted to try this next time – but as has been stated ‘It’s hard enough as it is’ 🙂

We had sex on Tuesday night and ovulated on Wednesday – BOY.

@Tunacupcakes:

I wouldn’t rely on anecdotal evidence to confirm any of this. Look at scientific studies.

Can you imagine trying one position until you conceived because you thought it would give you the gender you want … the average couple takes 6 months to conceive … so 6 months of doing it doggy or missionary or cowgirl etc … BLECH
