Hey – at 10 days post D and C i took a preggo test to see if my HCG levels had decreased, still very postive (as well as an LH surge test). We were thinking of trying this month since from what I understand drawback is that it is hard to date the pregnancy. But should we actually wait until next month until a preggo test reads negative? Does it actually take a full month to get a negative preggo test again? thanks!

Hi – I didn’t have a D&C so I am not sure if that affects how long it takes but I did MC in July and it took about 2.5 weeks for the tests to go back to negative. As for whether or not you should wait I have heard positive stories for both 🙂 We personally waited one full cycle and in my case I was glad I did because the AF for that first period was HORRIBLE and I bled for way longer than I ever have before for a period (sorry TMI).
Do what feels right for you and your body … and I am so sorry for your loss 🙁

You likely won’t ovulate until your HCG is 0 or close to it so I’d test out the HCG. Maybe order some cheap wondfos if you don’t have them already.

Agreed with what
MrsBG : said. I had a D&C at 12 weeks, and it took 5 weeks for me to get my period again (which wouldn’t happen till HCG zeroed out).

ahhh ok so i can’t ovulate until my HCG goes to zero? and then have a period like…… 3 weeks from now? lol i am confused!!
MrsBG : so basically if i test weekly and finally the test goes to not preggo i’ll like ovulate then and get my period 2 weeks later?so i still can try this cycle…

KB87 : Some people ovulate as soon as their hcg hits zero or close to it, but a lot of people don’t ovulate until the following cycle, they just have AF. I didn’t test after my d&c, but I charted to get a sense of when to expect AF. My chart shows I ovulated 16 days after the d&c. We choose to wait for a variety of reasons, but also at the request of our doctor. It’s a personal choice whether or not you want to wait to try again, but yes, doctor’s normally say one AF for dating purposes.

I would guess that you’ll get a period when your HCG hits 0 and then you’ll ovulate normally but obviously it varies person to person.

KB87 : mine was just a CP so may be irrelevant info.. but AF came the same time my hcg hit 0. i only can assume my progesterone was falling with my hcg, and progesterone going from high to low is what signals your body to menstruate.
good luck bee, I hope you find the answers you are looking for and I’m sorry you have to go through this at all.

I had a D&C 5 weeks + 1 day ago and it took around 3 weeks for me to get a negative on a FRER. I’m actually currently waiting for confirmation that my HCG is at 0 now (it was at 11 two weeks ago). I *think* I had a super light AF last week but I’m not 100% sure if that’s what it was. It would make sense since my uterus was so thoroughly cleaned out.

KB87 : I was 8 weeks pregnant, miscarried late Sept 2016, didn’t get a period until mid Nov 2016. And I was getting positive pregnancy tests well into October.

I had a D&C at about 11.5 weeks and it took about 4 weeks for the pregnancy tests to be negative. That was right around the time I got AF as well. I charted through it all and I did (appear to) ovulate about 2 weeks after the D&C. However, I got AF and my cycles were normal after that.
So basically:
D&C + 2 weeks: Ovulation (Pregnancy tests were still lightly positive)
D&C + 4 weeks: BFN & AF#1
D&C + 6 weeks: Ovulation
D&C + 8 weeks: BFN & AF#2
I did get BFP the next cycle though, currently 20 weeks! FX for you!
