Hey everyone! I’ve had mostly light bleeding and spotting (brown to pink, very occasionally red) almost every day since before the 4w mark – I am now about 7w along. I was experiencing cramping too but that’s pretty much over now. I’ve had three ultrasounds, and in the last one (6w2d) a fetus was seen with a heartbeat; I don’t think they measured the heart rate but said all looked normal. Areas of bleed were also evident near the sac. I believe there were several in the first scan – I remember the picture on the screen being dotted with dark areas – and fewer subsequently. The attached pic is from my last scan; I assume the bleed is the couple of small dark areas on the right of the gestational sac.
My healthcare providers haven’t volunteered any reason for the bleed; I mentioned SCH during one of these appointments (I forget which) but the lady just said it doesn’t look like an SCH, and didn’t provide any further suggestions on what it might be otherwise. The last consultant I spoke to had a very “don’t worry, it all seems fine” vibe, but again no explanation was given for the bleed.
Have any of you had bleeding and been given a concrete reason *other* than SCH? After one of the scans the idea was thrown about that I may have produced two eggs, one of which may have been fertilised but later passed away (vanishing twin); does anyone know if that could cause bleeding for several weeks like this?
If anyone has experiences of SCH I’d be interested in that too, especially if it sounds similar to what I’m dealing with!
I’m abroad at the moment but will be trying to get another appointment once I’m back. I’ve been reading about SCHs and their risks and prognosis, and I’m growing increasingly anxious about the outcome. This pregnancy has just felt off from the start, and the fact that I just keep on bleeding really isn’t helping.

I had a SCH with my first pregnancy. A hush of bright red blood at 5w5d followed by about 2 weeks of brown sporting. It had completely clotted by my 8th week. Full term pregnancy with a healthy baby.
I bled the exact same day with my chemical pregnancy and that’s how I found out it was a chemical. Both were IVF so I knew exactly what day it was. With my son, I just had a strong feeling he was going to stick especially since I we heard his heartbeat when I rushed back to the RE with my 5w5d bleed. Still very stressful though!
Hoping you get good news! It just takes time to see what will happen and the waiting stinks.

fleabagftw : I wonder what her reasoning for ruling out SCHs is? Looks like it could quite possibly be a SCH to me… Especially right next to the gestational sac. With my pregnancy with my daughter I had one and only had one gush of bright red blood and then it resolved itself. I know several others who bled on and off throughout their entire pregnancies because of them.

I had bleeding with both pregnancies, and 2 healthy babies. Both my midwife, the ER doctor, and the doctor in the early pregnancy clinic all told me sometimes there’s no concrete reason. You just have spotting, and they can’t pinpoint why. I know it’s not what you wanted to hear, but the good news is it didn’t lead to a loss.

🙋♀️ I bled throughout the first tri with both my babies. They diagnosed SCH but also said it could be a vanishing twin. It’s just how my body pregants.
first baby is 2.5 years and was born at 38+6 and a bouncing 9lb1. Second is 5 months was born at 40+2 and a bouncing 9lb3.

I spotted with all 3 pregnancies (which resulted in three healthy babies) from weeks 6-9/10. And cramped as well. Only one had an obvious SCH. Could be implantation bleeding, could be cervical irritation, could be small hard to see SCH. It was nerve wracking, but ultimately, ended fine for me. Sounds like you have a growing babe with a beating heart so that’s half the battle! Hang in there- and don’t panic (hard to do I know). Trust that your body is doing the right things and try not to over google. 😄. Congratulations!

fleabagftw : looks like an SCH to me. I had one when I was pregnant and started bleeding at 5w5d. On and off had brown spotting until I stopped my porgesterone injections at 12 weeks (IVF pregnancy). According to the nurses, they are really common.
We have a healthy 8 month olf now 🙂
