I certainly don’t think it is too long, especially if you’re in school. Fiance and I will have been engaged for 3.5 years, possibly longer depending on school.

@dfutureNP:  We were engaged for a little shorter than that. At first it wasn’t going to be that long, but graduating from college got pushed back and we wanted to be done with school first. I think that it is fine as long as you are willing to wait, but I can say, getting engaged, but waiting for so long can have its drawbacks. First, the excitement dies off. If you get engaged and jump right into planning, everyone is continuously excited (family at least), when we finally picked a date it was kind of like…oh ya we almost forgot you were even getting married lol It was also so hard not to start looking into things and watching people get engaged after you and married before you.

@dfutureNP:  Nope, I don’t think that’s too long at all! I think it’s very smart to wait until you graduate to get married.

It’s not too long. FH and I will have been engaged 42 months by the time we get married, so that’s a little over 3 years. FH and I are also still in school (I’ll be done in November, him in December) and we’ve been together for almost 4 years, known each other for 7.

@dfutureNP:  If you wanted to do an engagment party, you could wait awhile to do that, that way there will be something exciting for people. And you can also ask your Bridal Party early and there are lots of great ideas for asking them, besides just straight out asking. You could start getting lots of ideas early and involve your friends and family in the search.

Fiance and I are also doing a 3 year engagement. Mainly because we both have full time school and are thinking of buying a house soon too (well, down payment for starters) and we just need time for saving up the money.

I don’t think it’s too long. As long as you have a time tentatively set for a wedding, it doesn’t matter how long it is. What kills me are the engagements that are indefinite. I don’t understand why people would get engaged, then just never even plan a wedding. Those are the type of people who just want the ring/title.

@dfutureNP:  You’re welcome, trust me, the time will fly by 🙂 Fiance and I have already been engaged over a year, and it has sped by!
