Yeah, I know, not much anybody can do to help me without being an MD, but I’m going a bit nutso here!
I took a pregnancy test today and got a clear positive result, my period is 1 day late. About a week ago I had spotting and cramping but it went away without turning into a full period. Weirdness.
However I have a loooong history of ovarian cysts (not PCOS) and it says right on the packaging that ovarian cysts can cause a false positive.
I’ve been googling to find out more info but we all know how great Google is on the “am I pregnant?” front…
I know I need a blood test. However can cysts cause false positive blood tests, too, or just in the POAS variety? Also, I’m on my husband’s insurance and my card hasn’t come in yet. Crap right? Crap.
Has anyone heard of that happening – false positives due to cysts? I would just really like to find out if I’m pregnant. Ya know. Trying not to get too excited here.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I’ve never heard of cysts causing false positives… I didn’t even notice it on the box of my HPT, but I think false positives of any type are pretty rare.
As far as the bleeding goes, implantation bleeding is normal. It was like spotting right?
You’ll be okay for health insurance, you can go to a free clinic to get a blood test and your OB won’t need to see you until about 8 weeks. I was in the same boat as you when I got my BFP, I couldn’t believe it so I convinced myself it was a false positive. But you haven’t gotten your period and you got a BFP, so my vote is PREGNANT!!
Congrats!

Thanks girls. I was sure we would struggle getting pregnant due to my issues, for instance the cycle before this I got my period every two weeks… This is only our second cycle of trying and I just don’t really believe it could be true yet. But we shall see soon hopefully!!!! 🙂

I just wanted to add that if your card hasn’t come in yet, you can usually call the health insurance company, or your husband’s HR department and they should be able to fax you a temporary card within a day. Most companies do this.
Congrats! I hope this is it for you!!!!

I have a large cyst and a few months ago I thought I was pregnant. I tested negative. I actually never heard that they can give you false positives. Good luck!

I’ve never heard of that but I think you can still go to the doctor on your husband’s card. My husband’s cards only have his name on it but as long as I’m under his policy then it is fine.
Good luck! Sounds like you might want to talk to a doctor anyway about your health issues.

What type of pregnancy test did you use? If you used a digital then its very unlikely to get a false positive

Okay so I made an appointment with an OB for Dec 20. She said it was a waste of time to do a blood test because I used a digital test (the type that literally has the word “pregnant” in the window). As @bells said, supposedly that type of test doesn’t give you false positives, ever. Unless you have a rare type of cancer. But then why do they say that about the cysts in the instructions. Blah, whatever, apparently I am pregnant!
Yay!
….I’m kind of in still in shock. I feel like I’m walking underwater or something. Weird and slow-motiony and not real.
