We used the pull out method exclusively for about 7 years without so much as a scare, not sure if we were just lucky or what, but I feel like I hear stories all the time about people who didn’t have that luck. First time we didn’t (which was on purpose) I got pregnant.

@Big Truck:  the method only works if you pull out. If you don’t do it on time, obviously it wont work. Precum will not get you pregnant, there’s research on that.

We did it for 3 years. First time trying, we concieved. Worked for us.

@Big Truck:  yep!! I know multiple people who have goften pregnant using this method of “birth control”.  It’s really not smart..especially if your hubby doesn’t want kids right now.

There are a LOT of Bees that use pull n’ pray regularly with no problems, and there are lots that have cute babies stemming from pull n’ pray!

If you’re not ready for kids, I’d find another method. But if it’s not a big deal either way, keep doing what you’re doing!

The only truly proven way to NOT get pregnant is to refrain from having intercourse – no matter what form of birth control you use, there’s always a margin for error. I’ve known pill babys, condom babies, pull out babies – you name it.

That being said, my Fiance and I have been using the pull out method for eight years – sometimes in combination with birth control, sometimes not – and haven’t gotten pregnant yet (holy hell knock on wood – I feel like I might have jinxed myself haha).

Fiance is in medical school and learned TONS during his OB rotation – including that pre-cum does in fact have active, live sperm (not tons, but enough). I’m sure there’s probably information out there on the internet that will give a much better explanation than I’m doing haha. We’re also Catholic and had to go through pre-cana, including a class on natural family planning, and he doesn’t believe that the whole charting to not get pregnant really is reliable either (please don’t flame me for this – I have no clue how I feel about charting, so no judgement there for those that do!).

I guess do what you feel works for you, but just be prepared in case it doesn’t work? But since you’re NTNP, you both must on some level be ok with getting pregnant and having a kid, regardless if it happens sooner or later? Either way, good luck!

Well if he doesn’t want a kid and both of you refuse to use birth control I hope you realize pregnancy is a huge risk. I guess decide what’s more important to you: remaining childless or being responsible and using bc.

A co worker of my husband’s uses the pull out method and he is expecting his 4th child any day now. The wife’s first son is by a different guy and she was on the pill at the time. Some women are very fertile and some men have great swimmers.

The Planned Parenthood site has some great information about family planning methods, including the wirthdrawl method. 4% of couples who have perfect use (which is hard to achieve!) will conceive every year, 27% of women who have imperfect use will get pregnant in a year.

If you are looking for a method of BC other than condoms and hormonal pills, the standard days method, developed at Georgetown University, is a suprisingly effect and very simple rhythm method technique. and there’s an app for it! I would post a link but I am on my phone– but if you look up standard days method I am sure you can find it. It involves refraining from sex during certain days every month based on your menstrual periods. The downside is the window of time you need abstain every month is a bit long, but that is what makes is so effective for such a simple method.

@Big Truck:  Well if you want to know if you can get pregnant while using the pull out method I’ll let you talk to my 17 year old son…who wouldn’t be here if pulling out worked…

Yes its possible,  happened to me while in university. I’m 100% positive my partner did not ejaculate.

@tigergrrl2008:  Darling Husband and I did pre-cana too and found it so funny how the family planning part was everyone’s favourite. Most people only half paid attention until that part of the couse, all of a sudden everyone was quiet, alert and even the guys sat up staight…too cute!
