He took out a loan for the wedding/ring?

🙁 that would terrify me more than it would excite me. Was it a lot of debt? Especially when buying a house….

I did the proposing and it happened about 1-2 weeks before getting each of our rings.

I would be just as worried as pp about a loan for an engagement ring! That sounds like a really bad financial decision. Especially when you’re buying a house.

And in case you think that I don’t understand about tight finances, my engagement ring cost $550, my wedding ring cost $380, and my husband’s wedding/engagement ring cost $290. We bought what we could afford without taking a loan.

for me, taking out a loan for an engagement ring is a big no. cos you don’t know how much more loan you need to take for other things before and after the wedding. just make sure to pay on time to make sure the interest doesn’t spike

In my case, he bought the ring and proposed the next day. I had a bit of a warning so I knew it was coming soon. Although I’ve seen on here that some keep it for months before proposing. I guess it depends on how elaborate the proposal is and when they want to do it. Mine was simple but I’m happy I didn’t have to wait long.

He proposed the weekend after he picked up the ring but we were on a fast track (he wanted to be engaged before we put an offer on a house a week later).

(But we’d been together 5.5 years at that point) I was 26 at the time.

It happened around a week after the ring was ready.

I am sooo right there with everyone else who has said woah.. a loan for a ring? Bad news.

I think mine was right around 2 months after he bought it.  But I don’t know exactly when he got it, so that’s an estimate.

My fiancée proposed the same day he picked up the ring, and he purchased it a few weeks prior to that (the jeweler had to finish making it). He said he couldn’t wait and he literally did it the same day as soon as he saw me.

Btw my fiancé made a deposit for the ring and paid the balance in a series of payments…a pay as you go situation. He didn’t have $7,000 in cash or whatever the ring cost. So I don’t necessarily see the loan as being a terrible thing if he can pay it off in a few months.

I’ll start off by mentioning that I hate surprises. My boyfriend and I went ring shopping this past weekend. We picked out a ring and the jeweler said it would be ready to pick up in about a month or so. There were many options for no interest payments and loans. Maybe he’s just doing it to build his credit. Every situation is different! I wouldn’t worry about the loan; you know your boyfriend and situation best.

Before the ring shopping, I won’t say how, but I found out when and where he would possibly be proposing! I feel really bad about snooping now, but I’m so SO excited!!! For us, it’ll be 3 months after purchase.  I kind of wish it would happen sooner, but he plans on talking to my parents first and we have plans to visit my hometown close to that time. I was so excited about the news that I shared it with my mom who keeps trying to jump the gun and make wedding plans because she’s so excited too. I don’t feel like I ruined the surprise for myself because my boyfriend told me that it would happen before the end of the year and now I can be prepared (i.e. hair, makeup, nails lol).
