Hi bees – my fiance is from Cleveland, although we live in the Bay Area, California now (I’m from Australia). We’re considering Cleveland as our location for a few reasons:
– Most of his (large, close) family still live there (although quite a number are also in the Bay Area), and a lot of his high school friends.
– His parents have offered to help considerably more if it is in Cleveland (although they’ve also requested to invite considerably more people!)
– It might be cheaper than the Bay Area? This is the part we’re less sure about. Site rentals for reception here look to average around $2k.
Any other thoughts on Cleveland versus the Bay Area? I’ll cross-post this in the Bay Area section as well (if that’s allowed!).

How many guest ? Are you looking for east side or west ?

Congrats and welcome!
I currently live in the Cleveland area and its a very inexpensive place to live, especially compared to CA! It may be harder since its long distance but cleveland is actually a great city! Good luck to you:-)

I agree, I would guess Cleveland would be a lot less expensive than California! Downtown Cleveland has LOTS of gorgeous venues/locations. I wouldn’t hesitate to have it in Cleveland.. although the weather probably isn’t quite as nice as in California..

@sm_usagi: We are also getting married in Cleveland, but live on the West Coast (Washington). Planning long distance is a little tricky, but I’ve gotten quite a bit done already. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Also, I’m using a WONDERFUL coordinator, who is very reasonably priced, if you think you may like someone to help. Let me know if you would like her info. Happy planning!

That is where I am from and where my wedding was–east side although lots of great spots all over town. My sister lives in the bay area. I have seen some amazing venues there. However, you will be THRILLED with differences in prices.
Planning LD was a bit of a pain so I highly recommend an event planner–especially if your taste is significantly different from Future Mother-In-Law. I wished I had hired one and I was very familiar with locations, vendors, etc.
Feel free to message me with any questions–I’ll be happy to be very honest about vendors, etc.
Not to freak you out, but July is a popular month (only so many nice weather months in CLE) so you probably need to start booking now…

Thanks Georgia Bee! The July was a guess, we haven’t actually picked a date. We are thinking more like Christmastime though? My Aussie family would love a white Christmas.
ejay – what have you done so far? I’m totally at a loss 🙁
chocolatelady – will do!!

We are getting married in September with our reception at Windows on the river and planning it from Las Vegas. It has been hard to plan from so far away but with windows they include alot in their packages so that as definently made it easier. We didnt want the typical vegas wedding and have really enjoyed all the interesting things that Cleveland has to offer. I am not working with a planner so I have had to do alot on my own (sometimes I wish I would have got one lol) If you have any question let me know, hopefully planning goes well for you 🙂
