Yea, I agree with the PP that covered litterboxes are not the best. Jackson Galaxy, from My Cat from Hell always suggests open ones. I can’t recall why exactly, though it does track that being surrounded by fumes from feces and urine would not be the best. My cats have all been way too big to fit comfortably in any of the covered ones. My mainecoon Wally is about 17-18lbs right now and almost 3 feet long so he’s a big boy. We have an upstairs bathroom that is his since the plumbing doesn’t work right and we shut the water off up there. He has 2 large boxes in the bathroom, side by side. Litter does get kicked out but it stays up there and doesn’t get tracked everywhere. We are moving so soon so depending on our next house we might have to revisit his set up.

ADiamondInTheRough:  Interesting.  I have a cat who only goes in the covered one, stopped using the exposed box as soon as I got the other (had one of each for a while).  It works for her since she just stands to pee, no squatting.

I don’t have a picture, but when I lived in my apartment… the littler box was under the kitchen table (that I never used, was mainly for show/storage of crap!). It worked for what I had.

When I moved into my condo, the littler box was placed in a closet in one of the spare bedrooms that I used as an office. I’d leave one of the doors opened, so it created a nice private space for him to go. It was an open littler box, and extra large so it gave him plenty of room!
