Glorificous: & smashleykat:  Social work student here too! I am completing a post-degree one-year BSW after getting my BComm in psychology (organizational behaviour), and I am applying to MSW programs after one year of work (I live in Canada so MSWs here are STIFF competition!), my placement is in youth addictions (residential), I get my own clients next treatment block, which is pretty exciting and terrifying.

My partner and I picked my ring, and I am moderately self-conscious about the size (1.2 rb forever brilliant moissanite) for a social work position. I am wondering if either of you have had any issues with your rings at work. There is a inherent power differential between counselor and service user, does the ring or size exaerbate that at all? Any thoughts on how it impacts the therapeutic relationship? I may be overthinking the whole thing and experiencing a bit of a spot-light effect, but I am mildly concerned and any feedback would be appreciated.  There aren’t too many articles online (LOL)

kat010710:  I felt self-conscious as well, and sometimes I still do. I have a .90 rb solitaire. It’s been four months since I’ve been engaged, I getting used to it and somewhat less conscious. I work with homeless families and felt odd at first, but I didn’t make a big deal and neither has the families. I think I notice my ring and others more often than others.
