I’m not engaged yet but SOON (wedding is next spring! waiting for the ring/him to “officially” ask before booking the venue/commencing “real” planning though), he asked my mom almost two weeks ago and his parents over the weekend (he told me he asked my mom, his mom let it slip that he told them he was proposing soon!), but anyway, back to the point…
When we started looking at rings (in real life) in January/February, I had my heart set on an OEC or an antique cushion cut. I was SOO sure that was what I wanted, but when I tried an OEC on (amazing quality, 8mm/2 carat diamond, amazing lights, etc) I just wasn’t impressed. NO OFFENSE to women who have OECs, I’d still like a pair of OEC earrings (just not diamonds/clear stones), I just wasn’t “thrilled” like I thought I would be. It just didn’t look “real” to me (even though it was, gorgeous lighting, amazing clarity/color/etc). I hated the idea of hearts and arrows or round brilliant, but I LOVED those on my hand, so that’s what we’re getting! (he only likes round stones for an engagement ring, *sigh, men, haha, oh well, I love all sparkles so it worked out!!!)
Anyone else think they wanted one thing but fell in love with/ended up with something entirely different (especially that you originally thought you hated?)
I don’t have pictures yet (since I’m still “waiting”), but I’ll post as soon as he proposes!!!
PLEASE POST PICTURES!!!

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
What I originally thought I wanted. So stunning… on other people. But I think I may have been the first woman in the world to declare a ring “too sparkly”. I mean, really, WHO says that?
What we had custom made after months of shopping frustration.

I always though I wanted something like this growing up:
But after learning more about jewelry my taste changed somewhat and I got this beauty:

What I wanted:
What I have:
I love my current setting, but am planning to do a custom setting somewhere in the future, except with the petal stones not being diamonds, but pink sapphires.

I never thought about it too much, but I figured I’d go for something simple and classic like this:
But I got this. I definitly like the sparke more!

I love sparkle! So I always thought more was better…I didn’t want anything too small. And since I didn’t help pick out the ring it was all up to him…and his budget (which wasn’t going to afford me a big ring LOL)
I always thought I would get something like this (this is actually my stand in ring that we got for me to wear whenever my ring is at the jewelers or something.)
But every time I wear it I feel like its huge and makes my fingers look even shorter and chubby then they are to begin with! Really I am not a fan and it makes me sad to not have my real ring. Which is a .5ct tw 3-stone. (It is currently at the jewelers getting soldered and I miss it like crazy. Only 32 days until I get to wear it again!)

@Kat: Did you always know you wanted a moissanite before you came to WB?
What I originally wanted, we were going to have it custom made:
Changed my mind, wanted something more vintage and so we had my ring made combining a few rings I saw:

@Treejewel19: Hi Treejewel, your ring is so stellar! Love it!
As for the question about moissy, I always thought I wanted a yellow center stone of some sort, but when it came time to talking about actually getting engaged, I decided I wanted a clear stone. I initially started by looking at crystal (lol) but then by looking at betterthandiamond I found moissanite and it was instantly what I wanted.

@Kat: Thanks so much!
Makes sense. I am always curious about bees with a moissy as to how they came to learn about that option. I had honestly never heard about it until I joined a few years ago. Now tha I know about it I have spotted a few in real life, I feel like I’m in on a special secret! 🙂

This is what I originally asked for and we even looked at a ring just like this one.
This is what Darling Husband gave me. It’s beautiful, but I wasn’t happy with it. I ended up having the stone reset into a simple peg 4-prong setting on a plain 2.5 mm band.

@KingsDaughter: DANG I love both your inspiration picture and your real ring!!!
