@jenefer: I have a small cushion solitaire in rose gold. I love how its making a come back. Mine is an I SI2 colored stone.
It will show more color – but personally I don’t mind it. I have a ring in a yellow gold solitaire with YG prongs that definitely shows more color than it would in WG prongs, but I like it that way!
Morganite/Rose Gold
Sorry for the huge pics. I have no idea how to make them smaller.
There are two ways to look at the colour issue in a YG or RG setting. First, if you put a D stone into a white setting and a YG or RG setting and placed them next to each other, the stone would pick up colour from the setting and look like a lower colour in YG or RG compared to the white setting.
However, if you have an I or J stone and set it in YG or RG, the stone will probably look whiter than it would in a WG setting. The WG could contrast enough with the stone to make it look slightly yellow in comparison to the setting (it doesn’t always, and there are beautiful WG rings with I and J stones), but the stone will look bright white next to the YG or RG.
Because I chose an 18K YG setting (not the same as RG, of course, but the principle is the same), I have an I coloured stone. Whiter stones looked the same to me in the setting, so I wasn’t willing to pay for quality I couldn’t see.
I’ve read both that it makes stones look whiter and it makes them look warmer. I think your best bet is to go to a jewelry store and try some on and see what you like.
Like you, I have fallen in love with rose gold!! I just love its warmth, its vintage look, the copper shine. No doubt, I am so in love with it. Now, I found out about rose gold after getting my wedding set, thanks to wedding bee ๐
Since my contour wedding band is soldered to my e-ring, I wanted to get a single wedding band to wear alone, so I got a 14k rg diamond band ( I think it’s F/G SI1/2). I find the white stones look super white with the rose gold comparision. And they pop so much more than in my platinum band. Your eyes always compare, so I think a diamond will look whiter in rg than wg.
Also, I’m a HUGE fan of rose gold prongs on a white stone!!!!! I’ll post a pic of another bee, hope she doesn’t mind. It illustrates how gorgeous!
Another HUGE advantage to rg, as mentioned above, is that it needs less maintenance. It is an alloy that doesn’t need replating with anything. Wg on my hands need to be rhodium plated every 2 months or so. Crazy maintenance. I love that my rose gold band always stays the same colour.
I did get another thin rose gold band, with low quality dimaonds (I/J, I2) but the stones look good in the rose gold. It’s like rg is forgiving to a coloured diamond ๐
Pics!:
Lower quality stones in this rg band. Love the rg prongs, to show off the copper colour :
And my favorite rg solitaire with side accents. It’s a moissy, that belongs to another bee:
And two more, hehe! Look which band makes the diamonds stand out most. The wg eternity band has larger diamonds, but you would think the rg band has similar sized stones.
Mine is two tone. Rose gold shank with a white gold head. My diamond is an H color. Some day I’d love to have a warmer color diamond like an M or maybe even champagne! ..I think it would look lovely with rose gold!
I just got my rose gold wedding set/engagement ring!It has a rose gold shank and white gold cap/head.The diamond color is a M ๐๐!I love warmer diamonds!
