What kind of party are you thinking about?

Do you have a home that you can throw a party in? I would just host a dinner party or cocktail party at my place and not call it anything wedding-related.

Maybe you could give a toast during the party and thank everyone for coming and supporting your relationship, and although they couldn’t come to your wedding on the east coast, you are glad they are here today. And if you have any leftover favors, you could give them out. I think that would be really cute and fun.

I’ve seen this done before – it’s not tacky at all!  It’s a wonderful idea!  You can phrase it a number of different ways:

“The Newlyweds invite you…” or “We brought our Honeymoon home” (and have a beach themed/or whereever you honeymooned-themed party), or just call it a marriage party or a post-nuptual party.  I’ve even seen “I want to use my wedding presents” party, although I think that’s only funny among close friends. I think people will love celebrating with you no matter what you decide!

and I love the line: “we hope for your presence, not your presents” so that people don’t feel like they need a gift.
