(Closed) Post-wedding brunch? If so, who pays?

we did it, the hotel offered a all you can eat breakfast for 3 hrs at $14/pp. pretty affordable and since we had the event in a remote area out of town, not many other options for people. it was nice to have more time to spend with friends and family.

We did one because my in-laws wanted to.  It was at my in-laws house and hosted by both sets of parents.  It turned into a bigger event than it needed to be (ie my Mother-In-Law ended up doing a bloody mary bar) but was fun!

The day after our wedding was Mother’s Day! So I had a light breakfast at the hotel’s continental breakfast with my family (DH was still out cold), then we met DH’s family at Wegman’s for omelettes, which they treated us to.

 My BFF had a brunch the day following her wedding and it’s the only one I’ve been to. Her Aunt paid for it and hosted it at the reception hotel’s restaurant. They had a huge buffet and also made the event into a gift opening. The bride and groom were an hour late so not all the gifts got opened. It was word of mouth (as was her rehearsal) and invited guests were all bridal party, close family, and that was it.

I don’t know what we’ll do! We don’t want to make everyone watch us open gifts. The hotel where our reception is at includes breakfast for overnight guests, so we might just all meet up for breakfast the next morning. Though Fiance has said once the reception is over he’s pretty much ready not to have to see anyone again! LOL. I don’t know what I will do.

@marilen:  We are doing this, since it’s memorial day weekend. We are having it at my FI’s parent’s house and buying the food ourselves. It will probably cost about $300 total for all the food. We are also going to be opening gifts while we are there. Then off to the honeymoon!

@marilen:  We found a local pub that was willing to host us and provide a free local band for music in exchange for our promised business. Guests had to pay for their own food and drinks. 

It was very reasonably priced and nobody minded paying. We had already provided a pre-wedding event, a rehearsal dinner and the wedding itself….

@wabanzi:  That’s not cheap! My future Brother-In-Law did that for their “brunch”! They had a ton of food (good food!) left over from the night before, so his mom heated it all up and set it on the counter. Not many people ate since they had already eaten breakfast.

We had a very informal brunch at my mother’s house.  Bagels, cream cheese, wedding cake, fruits and breakfast pasteries.  It was super fun and very relaxed.  We split the cost on the whole thing, but overall it was not more than $75.

Definitely not necessary! We had one, but only because we could use the same rentals from the wedding so it was cheap. We DIYed the food. Honestly, I wish we had kept the food more simple, but it worked out well. It was nice to have some time to visit with Out of Town guests, but I was unfortunately not feeling well that morning, so it wasn’t as great as I had hoped.

I’ve never heard of this; but then, I only know what a rehearsal dinner is because of Friends lol.

We’re staying at our venue (hotel) along with about 40 or so of our guests. Breakfast is included, so, we’ll be letting people know what time we’re eating, and they can join us if they wish.

I’ll be honest and say that I wouldn’t even consider hosting a brunch; not only is the wedding costing a fortune as it is (per head costs for the food and drink for our all-day guests is around $180), but honestly, we are going to be SOOO tired; we’ll have been up for about 20 hours, and hosting people from 1pm-3am, so the last thing I’d want to do is host ANOTHER event…

my mother hosted our day after brunch.  (she did it for my previous wedding too).

i don’t think it’s necessary but you can always just have an open house the next day with a few snacks or trays that you pick up at costco or something.  the nice thing with an open house, all of the guests won’t all come at the same time or stay for the entire duration.  it’s more of a pop in visit.

We are not doing one.
All my bridesmaids are staying with me the night before the wedding and we are having a bridal breakfast with just us and the mums of bride and groom, but its certainly not formal and mostly because we have to feed people breakfast before such a huge day (and i really was adament about having some sort of champagne breakfast on my wedding day). 

However, i am in Australia and we dont do rehearsal dinners over here either (unless its a huge wedding 200ppl+ or a very formal wedding).

Also in saying that, we are not doing a ‘after wedding breakfast’ either and are going straight from our reception to our mini-moon, staying there for two nights, going home for one night then flying out for our two week honeymoon, so theres definitely no room there for a bruch or anything else besides packing LOL

We are having one, on our website we added that everyone was welcome to join but it would not be catered. Everyone would be responsible for their own meal.
