- Wedding: January 2013
I’m looking for some creative input. I have been reading your wonderful posts while quickly planning my wedding and now need some advice for planning a ‘marriage celebration’.
My situation: I am Canadian, I just married an American this past weekend. Because the government only gives you 90 days in which to get married, and you don’t know when those days will be until you get your acceptance letter, we didn’t have much time to plan anything. Also, because we were getting married in Alabama, I didn’t want to invite all my friends and family because of short notice, its expensive to get here from Canada, and, well, …its Alabama 🙂
So we are planning a party next November in a town in Mexico where my dad lives for my friends and family. I am not allowed to leave the states until I get my green card and that can take up to 6 months, so that takes us into summer and Mexico doesn’t work in the summer. My husband is not allowed in Canada so that isn’t an option. Sooo, this is the plan 🙂
What would you all suggest? It’ll be almost a year that we’ll have been married, but my family and friends are all sad that they couldn’t be part of the wedding, and they are excited for Mexico. So I’m trying to think of creative ways to have this celebration. Should we do a vow renewal? Just have a party? Have a wedding reception and pretend we just came from the wedding? None of my friends and family are conservative or worried about ‘proper etiquette’, so that isn’t a concern. Any suggestions welcome!
