I love planning and I’ve been engaged since July 2016, though I have been planning my wedding vision since forever. I got my venue, caterer, and DJ booked and just this week my mom and I FINALLY booked our photographer/videographer after 4 months of looking.
I just get so excited when I cross something off my list, because it takes me forever to make a decision (hence the long enagement lol). I figured my month twins might feel the same way. So bees, when you complete a task post here and celebrate!!
YOU DID IT!!! YAY!!!!!!

I’m getting married in July 2018, not June, but I love this idea so I’m joining in!
- Venue (for reception; still need to put down deposit to have same venue for ceremony)
- Sort-of flowers … my mom is going to grow a lot of them and we’ll DIY everything but the cake table centerpiece and my bouquet. Still need to find a florist for that.
We’re hoping to figure out hotel blocks soonish. We’ll also need to get started with save the dates since it’s out of town for a lot of people. Hmm, and this is a random reminder to self, but don’t forget to book the calligraphy person for that chalkboard at the venue. I will definitely forget that if I don’t write it somewhere. Also the officiant is after us for a ceremony soon.
I feel kind of behind compared to you, doggeebee!

I’m going dress shopping in a few days so I am very excited for that! Other than makeup/hair, bridesmaid dresses, FI suit, groomsmens suits we are pretty much done!

You ladies are really on top of things!
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
Drafted our guestlist
Booked a venue (back in May)
Chosen and met with a caterer and selected a rough menu plan (though we can’t confirm this with a contract until October after our tasting)
Booked a DJ
Booked a photographer
Bought my dress (went faster than expected — I found something great in a used gown shop on my second outing)
Bought my shoes
Chosen (but didn’t yet order) bridesmaid dresses
picked my bridal party and let them know
Purchased some materials for crafts.
Up next: book our engagement shoot, work on content for our website (I want to include some city guide-type materials), interview officiants.
I have a friend who got engaged within a week of me in April but is getting married THIS October, and it’s been really impressive to watch her plan this thing at lightning speed — while I waffle over decisions and meet with multiple vendors she just books things immediately, no time for second guessing! It looks like she’s making good decisions too, and her wedding’s going to be great. I’m almost a little envious she’s not spending as long obsessing over this as I will!

denkyem : The grass is always greener. She might be lookign at you being envious of all the extra time ou have to get things done! Or at least the extra time to slowly save. Everyone goes at their own speed. I know I COULD do it really quickly, but I don’t think the panic attacks are worth it lol. You shoud be proud! You’ve done so much!
Since my last post I’ve crosses off
Picked a florist
Picked our first dance son
Decided on the website template
Booked our engagment shoot.
Planned my frist wedding dress shopping trip with my entourage.
It still feels like there is a mountain of work to do though!

rao4400 : Nice, you’re doing great! Have a fun first dress shopping trip!
I had a pretty sweet wedding win today: found someone (well, actually my lovely DJ found someone) posting on a local wedding facebook group about wanting to sell a $750 gift certificate to a specific events AV company for $200. She’d won it in a charity auction and now couldn’t use it. It so happens that my wedding venue requires me to pay a flat fee of $600 to this same AV company in order to plug into their in-house sound system (super annoying, but we’d budgeted it in). I checked a scan of the GC with the vendor and they say it’s legit and they’ll honour it, so now I just have to meet this lady in a parking lot with $200 over the weekend (less sketchy than it sounds!) and we save at least $400. A drop in the bucket against the bigger budget, but pretty great!

denkyem : That is amazing! MAybe you could see if 150 could get you some kind of upgrade? Like some up lighting or maybe a few extra hands to help out with tear down.

- Got engaged end of October 2016.
- Booked the ceremony in December
- Booked the reception in January
- Unexpectedly found my dress in December and came in a week later
- Finally got my ceremony shoes a few weeks ago. Have my reception shoes in mind (ballroom shoes – I like to dance) but have not purchased yet
- Booked photographer in February
- Ordered the cake last month
- Save the Dates are at the printer’s and will send in next couple of weeks, most likely
- Picked bridesmaid dress last month – my SIL already ordered hers and received it; my other bridesmaid, we will go together to have her try on and order later this week when I visit her
Those are the big things! Some little things have been done here and there. The only vendors left are DJ and month-of-coordinator, which we’ll start researching more thoroughly and meeting with in the next couple of months, probably, after I finish school in a week and a half. Still not sure if I will book a florist or not, as it would only be for the ceremony decoration most likely and very minimal.
Less than 300 days now!!!

penguin8407 : That’s awesome! You are so far ahead!
This week I found and ordered my wedding dress, found and ordered the cake, and booked my hotel room blocks. Finalized the bridesmaid dress colors and selected the styles. I was supposed to book the florist too, but I was just too exhausted lol.
I think I’m going to take a nice looong break fro wedding planning.
