Update on my dress with Anty from Shop 2.0.
I asked for mid-production pictures about a week ago, and Anty said she’d send them when they began making the lace appliques. I finally got a couple of pictures today, showing the front and back of the upper part of the dress since the rest of the dress doesn’t have any lace, apart from the train. I was OK with what I saw, but I can tell that it’s going to be quite different from my inspiration dress. For the most part, I don’t mind, but there was a part of the design that they didn’t do quite the way I wanted. I pointed this out and Anty said she’d ask the worker to check and fix it.
I asked her to please send me more pictures as the dress progresses. The response was: “After confirm this appliqués. Rest work will sew directly. Can’t be more progresses pictures. When finish all. Will show u”. I asked whether she’d send me pictures of the lace appliques on the train at least, and the reply was “That is not necessary dear”. So basically the next update I expect is once the dress is completed.
Based on this, I have this advice for anyone who plans to go with Shop 2.0:
1. Don’t expect mid-production/progress pictures the way The Shop does. It seems that they only send pictures for things like lace appliques. I’m sure if I didn’t specifically ask for them, I wouldn’t have gotten any pictures at all.
2. Don’t expect a close replica unless you are buying a design they already have on their shop website. I went the custom route and sent pictures of a dress I liked. From what I saw from the pictures so far, only the neckline is similar to my inspiration dress, and it’s still nowhere near exact. Luckily, I don’t want a replica, just the same general silhouette and design, which is why I’m very chill about this. If I did want an close replica, I would be quite upset. Consider any inspiration dress pictures you send a “suggestion”, not a “blue print”.
3. If you like control and are particular about things, Shop 2.0 is not for you. You will have next to no control, if any at all.
4. If you want a dress made quickly, at an extremely affordable price (mine is less than 300 USD), with good quality (based on others’ experiences, since I’m yet to receive my dress), and aren’t too particular about the details, Shop 2.0 might be for you.
I’ll keep you all posted about how the dress turns out.
