I looked in shops and was leaning toward very affordable Mori Lee and Essence of Australia gowns, but still struggled with the thought of $1k on a second wedding in the backyard. So I started looking at pre-owned. There are a ton of dresses in the $400 price range in a consignment store in our area, but I ended up getting my new with tags,  never-worn, James Clifford gown through Craigslist being sold by a girl in the next town who bought two dresses. I wanted Ivory, satin, sweetheart and bling. I got white, taffeta, sweetheart, and (less) bling.

But I did get under budget- $200!!!

It’s important to remember where you’re shopping. On SYTTD these brides are going to a high end bridal salon where, yes, a 3K isn’t going to get a “wow” dress. They’re dealing with dresses that come in higher end fabrics, and other embellishments. Is he wrong? No, not for the price range in *their* salon.

Go to a regular, moderately price salon, and 3k is a great budget. My budget was 2k, but I figured I would probably have to go over some. My dress was $1400, and I haven’t had alterations yet.

Gorgeous gowns ladies! Who needs a $3K dress anyway?

Here’s my allure that I absolutely love. I think it’s right around $1200.

Mine was around $1,200 after taxes, and I think it is beautiful. It is all lace and it even comes with a crystal belt.

So many beautiful dresses and ladies in them!  Screw Randy.  lol, Love him to death but you can def find a nice dress for under 3k.  I had always planned to check out davids bridal till I had a bad expirience with them.  Ended up going to a boutique that had fancier dress styles than my david’s bridal had.  My dress was around $1000 (not including alterations) and it’s the most amazing dress I’ve ever seen.  I knew getting a nice dress would be possible for under $1,500 so getting a dress for $3k that knocks em dead is totally possible haha.  I don’t care what Randy says *snaps*

@starfish0116:   Honestly, I tried on some higher end dresses ($6-8000) and the fabrics weren’t all that amazing and certainly didn’t account for the price. They also had cheap plastic boning which wasn’t fit for the task (it might do a day, but that’s all and that’s what they rely on).

My dress came in at £1500 ($2400) although the veil took it over $3k (just) and for that I got a silk taffeta steel-boned corset with spoon busk and gold contrast stitched cording; a hand-made hoop skirt based on an 1863 pattern; 8 layered red tulle and organza petticoats; and a bodice with three skirts (ballgown with train, 1950s circle and close-fitting pencil)… Oh and a hand-made tricorne hat.
