I’m shocked they didn’t return to sender if there wasn’t enough postage!

I’ve never heard of this! I would think they would return to sender without enough postage. That’s so strange..

@springbride23:  Oh this has happened to me before multiple times! I never understood why it was on the receiver to make up the difference since the sender is the one who didn’t affix the correct postage. Anyway I once heard that if you don’t pay the postage due, then the mail delivery person sometimes has to pay out of pocket so I’m always extra careful to make sure to put the change in the little envelope now (it can be easy to forget)! Usually it isn’t a lot, but it could definitely add up!

I think it is rather nice of them to deliver the package and trust you to pay the balance. Returning it to sended seems a bit convoluted to me. The postal service then has to deliver it twice to get the same amount of money.

@springbride23:  Definitely! Just to clarify, I didn’t mean to imply that you wouldn’t! 😉

Fun fact, the PO generally tries to deliver under-paid mail if it looks like a greeting card…kinda nice! Although as most of us in the US know, the USPS is having major financial problems so while their tactics may be “nice”, it isn’t exactly going to help their bottom line. 🙂

@julies1949:  Exactly.

@springbride23:  They would wind up shipping the same package three times- once without enough postage, once to return it, again with the right postage. So while some people might not pay the postage due amount, they still save money. That’s part of the reason the whole USPS system is breaking down.
