This is the site for a local photographer I am considering.
I think her photgraphs are beautiful and she is the only person I have found locally that falls within our budget (even though it is JUST within budget!) and has nice quality of work.
I was hoping you guys could give me some insight as to what you think of her work, especially those bees who have picked their photographers already or are photographers themselves.

her portraits look very pretty. how are her action shots? which are more important to you? granted, i didn’t look at many because her website was super slow.

I see nothing but portraits, which are nice. You need to see full wedding or 2 to get an idea of her shooting style, variety of situations and important moments. I didn’t see any pictures from the ceremony, first kiss, etc. Also there are no shots of preps, reception, emotions, variety of lighting conditions. Her site doesn’t tell me anything about her style, i can pose couples all day long it doesn’t make one a wedding photographer.
I want to see emotions and actions, not posed photographs.

I agree with PP. There’s nothing but portraits of the couple. There’s no action shots, details of the ceremony or reception, etc.,
I would ask to see a full wedding before booking them.

I would also look into their portfolio for action shots, however I LOVE HER STYLE! Although her photos are posed, I see plenty of emotion in her photos. While I find action shots vital, I find posed shots just as important!

Her style is a bit too composed and theatrical for my taste, but if YOU like her, isn’t that all that matters?
Upon a cursory view at her blog, what’s interesting is that a lot of her wedding posts only include staged shots. There’s a bit more action going on in her e-shoots, so I’d wonder why she doesn’t have more action going on in the wedding galleries. No harm in meeting with her, though. If you do, I highly recommend asking to see a wedding that she’s shot start to finish–you’ll see greater variety in her pics and get a better sense of her style.

Yup, nothing but portraits. Sorry, When I see that in a photographer’s blog I go to the next one. I’m not hiring them to shoot a model shoot. I want to see candids, and if all they show on their blog are portraits, that tells me what they think about their own ability to shoot candids.

I think if you love her and have spoken with her and seen a full wedding or two that she has shot, then go for it! I think her editing is clean, which I like. nothing too crazy with edits.

I like her. I would definately want to see more actual wedding shots before I booked but I do like the style.

Thanks for all of your input.
I have set up a date to meet with her for a chat. I will definitely ask to see a complete wedding and some actions and candid shots as well.
