I think it’s different being an adult mouse in a confined space after having not been confined in the past, and being an 8 week old den animal with lots going on around you while you’re in your crate.

My puppy stays in his crate when we can’t watch him.  He’s 10 wks old and goes into his crate voluntarily to sleep.  He doesn’t yip or whine when we close the door, he just gets into his bed and lays down.

Just my 2 cents though, not expecting to change anyone’s mind or anything.

Can we all just agree that we all use varying types of training that WORK FOR US?  No one is ever going to do it the same, and as long as you have the outcome you desire, then let’s stop being so harsh of others for their methods.

I commend you for rescuing that sweet, sweet puppy and doing what you need to do to get her trained!  She has a lovin’ mama, if you ask me 🙂  Hang in there, have lots of patience & it will work out in time!!!
