@MrsPhilly:  I’ve never had poutine, but I LOVE fries. I think this is brilliant!

I love a good poutine!!! Oh man, I wish I were eating one right now… This is a great idea! Lots of fun. I don’t think weddings always need to be formal. I have been to formal weddings where I have been served fancy looking food… that tasted like plastic. I think that’s much worse than something casual but delicious. Go for it!!!

If we had poutine in New Zealand, I would be all over this idea. Who cares what the “that would be tacky!!” police thinks? It’s your wedding.

You can’t have people join you from, say, 5:30-10pm, expect them to drink and dance, and not feed them An actual meal! A lot of folks are going to leave early to go get dinner. Your parents are right on this one. And a sit-down meal does not have to be boring.

@MrsPhilly:  Late night does NOT need to be classy.

I LOVE POUTINE. Although it can be very messy, its still a great idea ESPECIALLY since you’re not having a normal dinner.

And Smokes is great. Their Global Headquarters is in my town. (Ajax, Ontario) They don’t like it when you go in there to ask for poutine, they’re just an office building and that makes me sad. I don’t want to drive to Toronto just for poutine…

Smokes are definitely not a global franchise (does anywhere but Canada have poutine?) but it is delicious if it’s hot! I have had Smokes truck poutine a few times and it’s always good drinking food but the line moves pretty slow. It’s also quite messy but if your wedding is casual then I say go for it!

Also, cocktail food is dinner so long as there is a good amount served, it absolutely does not have to be sit down or buffet to be considered dinner in my mind. Poutine is just a delicious late night snack.

I think even if some people think it SOUNDS tacky now, by the time the late night food came out they’d be all about it!

I went to a wedding that had a late night grilled cheese buffet… everyone loved it.

It was actually really funny, when they put it out, the bride came up to me FURIOUS, saying “oh my god, I asked them NOT to do the grilled cheese it’s so expensive, we decided not to do it… Can you go get me one? If I’m going to complain I can’t go up there myself but I really want one!”

Even the angry bride was in the mood for melty cheese at that point. DO IT. Everyone will love it!
