Contractions for me have been really confusing since mine didn’t fit the typical description so I thought I’d start a thread where people can post what their practice contractions felt like (I mean contractions that aren’t leading to labor within a few hours/days) since it seems like it varies quite a bit.
The only consistant thing for me has been that they’re irregular in spacing and they go away within an hour.
Recently I started having Braxton Hicks that fit the mold – painless, stomach tightening but really I can only tell because they make me have to pee and when I feel my stomach it’s rock hard, and they go away once I start moving around.
The other type that I’ve had more frequently though and for the past couple weeks come on when I’m walking or moving a lot, are painful for a couple seconds, feel like twisting in the lower abdomen and pinching down there, and go away after I sit or lay down.

My practice contractions felt like period cramps. I didn’t actually start feeling them until after 37 weeks, and they would intensify when I was walking or doing something physical. Sometimes, they were actually timeable at 7 to 10 minutes apart, but I couldn’t always tell when they were starting/stopping. Usually, they stopped completely after a couple hours of resting.
Actually, my early labor contractions were really similar. They felt like period cramps, and were timeabel a few minutes apart. I thought it was just because I was so active, and if my water hadn’t broken, I don’t think I would’ve known I was in labor for a few more hours (when they became really painful)!

Here’s another thing I didn’t know. You can have contractions basically all day and all night and not be in active labor. My body has just been one BH contraction this entire week. Not many painful ones but half the time I put my hand on my belly it’s rock hard. My poor husband is on such high alert because everytime he touches my belly he’s like oh this is it! I’m like no this happens all day every day now, my belly just has learned to do it’s own crunches.

I’ve started having BH contractions with Wombat, but never had them with Moose. Mine are painful, like period cramps; irregular; and go away after I chug a ton of water.

My BH contractions started around week 24 I think and I don’t think a day has gone by since the first one where I didn’t have at least one. For me, my belly gets rock hard and it kinda takes my breath away, though there’s no pain. Once baby started getting a lot bigger though, sometimes it would feel like I was having one but then I look down and it’s actually her pushing her entire body over to one side of me. Funny how similar the two feel though!

I’ve been having regular BH contractions since about week 28…at one point they were 3-4 minutes apart and I called the hospital, they told me to come in and kept me there for 2 days! It was week 35 and one of the nurses told me “this is probably it!” but I kept telling them there was no way I was in labour, because it didn’t hurt! I have a little twinge of pain with them, like super mild period cramps and my belly gets really hard and sometimes look lumpy, depending on where baby is.
Yesterday I had five or six that were actually painful, like a “real” cramp, and had two that felt totally different than the rest – instead of like a cramp it felt like someone was squeezing hard on my belly, if that makes sense…. either way, we’re 39 weeks now and every time I feel anything I’m crossing all my fingers that this is it!!

I never felt any Braxton Hicks, and then when the main event came it felt more like when you have stomach cramps. I was always able to talk through mine and they never felt like what I imagined they should feel like. It was very confusing… but my baby was OP so maybe that had something to do with it.
