Coming from a Protestant family, our wedding ceremony will likely be an hour, complete with a small sermon, some praise songs, and some readings. I found a really pretty “Amazing Grace” rendition by Chris Tomlin, a well known Christian songwriter. This song seems to be a classic for weddings, especially since most people whether secular or religious knows it. It’s similar enough that people can sing along, yet still uniquely different from the usual. LOVE it.
What do you guys think? Do you guys have any other suggestions?

I think that *could* work well (I love listening to his version) . My concern would be people who think they know the song and go into autopilot. If you have a program or somesort of projection make sure to put “Amzing Grace (Chains are Gone)” to designate that this is different than the original.
We’re having at least one hymn (still trying to decide, our officiant is a worship pastor so he has an opinion too!) and opening with “Simple Gifts” for the processional. We’re trying to keep the ceremony a resonable length (30-45minutes) so my knees do not give out (managed to do more damage to already weak knees this winter). FH very much wants to stick to classic hymns, which is interesting as most of my side will be Catholic or Anabaptist and most of his will be Baptist or Presbyterian.

I think that song is great! We’re having a worship song as well… I put the lyrics in the program for those who don’t know the song. I would suggest doing that if you can.
Some other good praise & worship songs that I like & feel would be appropriate for the unity of marriage are:
Tear Down The Walls – Hillsong
Forever Reign – Hillsong
Pleasing to You – Desperation Band (I considered this one for our prep for communion)
How He Loves Us – David Crowder Band
You Never Let Go – Matt Redman
Nothing But the Blood – Matt Redma
and our leading into communion song is
Love Like Fire – Hillsong Live
Hope that gets the ideas going =)

I don’t know if this fits the mood you’re going for, but I LOVE the Neko Case version of “This Little Light.” It’s on her album The Tigers Have Spoken
I also like Iris Dement, “The Shores of Jordan”
“I Shall Not Be Moved,” by, like, a million different artists

I’ve always been a big fan of Amazing Grace but for some reason I just can’t get into Chris Tomlin’s version of it; I’m having the church band conduct all the worship though so just ignore me 😛
These are the songs I’m trying to narrow down at the minute:
How Great Thou Art (no idea wo wrote this, but I found a version sung by Elvis once :P)
Indescribable – Chris Tomlin
In Christ Alone – Kings Kaleidoscope
How Deep The Fathers Love
God of Wonders (again no idea who wrote this)
Hope this helps!
