We are in the middle of this right now too. Our priest asked that we err on the side of brevity, so I think we are going to have 5 total. 1: for those in uniform, (groomsmen include a Navy JAG office and a NYC detective), 2: for our family and friends to support our marriage, 3: for those who have died in our families, 4: a religious harmony/respect one, and 5: for us. We are still working on the wording. We are keeping the response simple – just “we pray to the Lord/Lord hear our prayer.” When we hash out the wording I can send it along to you!

We aren’t getting married in the Catholic Church – we are both lapsed Catholics (I have converted to a Protestant denomination), but wanted to include some Catholic traditions in our ceremony, as this was very important to The Guy’s mother who’s a very devout Catholic. I wrote our own prayer of the faithful _ I drew on several examples including some from Weddingbee.

For leaders of Church and State, for heads of institutions, for heads of homes and

households;

that they will lead us and guide us in the search for goodness, peace, joy, and love

among us,

we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the parents of Andrea and Paul;

whose examples and guidance have formed the foundation upon which they will build

their life together,

we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For all married people: for those who married yesterday, for the new couple Andrea and

Paul, married today, and for those who will marry tomorrow;

that they may savor the joy of being together, creating a family, a long life, friends, and a

new day, every day,

we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For those suffering from illness, depression, disability, addiction, disappointment,

poverty, and hopelessness;

may they trust that God will not abandon the work of His hands, but will abide with them,

sharing their joy and their pain,

we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

For the departed, who remain with us in our prayers and our memories, and for the

promise of a joyful reunion;

especially the grandparents of both Andrea and Paul,

eternal rest grant unto them, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace,

we pray to the Lord.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Most gracious God, you have made us in your own image

and given us into one another’s care.

Hear the prayers of your people,

that unity may overcome division,

hope vanquish despair, and joy conquer sorrow;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

I was at a mass last Sunday, and I thought their prayers of the faithful were very personal and touching:) I thought it was so moving…..

I really liked that they had something in there for everyone, including: a prayer for those who suffer from depression and anything else that makes life hard to get through……

@starfish we didnt follow that format, we totally made our own, such rebels, below is ours, with the names changed, it sounded way more person with the real names in there!

The response will be “Lord, hear our prayer.”

For (Bride’s Name) and (Groom’s name), that our Father in heaven will bless them throughout their married life, and that he will keep them united in undivided love forever.  We pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For (Bride’s Mom), (Grooms Mom and Dad) that they will continue to walk with (Bride’s Name) and (Groom’s name) on life’s journey and share in the joy and celebration of their marriage.  We pray to the Lord.

 Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For all those gathered here on this joyous occasion, that you may continue to support (Bride’s Name) and (Groom’s name) with your friendship and love throughout their lives. We pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For the loved ones of (Bride’s Name) and (Groom’s name)who have gone before them—especially (Bride’s Name)’s  father (Bride’s dad’s name)—that he, and all the deceased, find peace and the fulfillment together in heaven. We pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For all those who are sick or unable to be with us here today, especially (Grooms Grandmother) and (Bride’s cousin), that they may always be in our hearts and minds. We pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For Father (Priest who married us), and all the parishioners of St. (Church we were married at), that they may enjoy all Lords blessings today and always. We pray to the Lord.

We finally finished our Prayer of the Faithful, here it is!

The response to each prayer is: Lord, hear our prayer.

For the Church: that we may put on the mind of Christ and open the gates that isolate and remove us from others different from us.

Sung: We pray to the Lord.

            Sung Response: Lord, hear our prayer

For the safety of all those who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to protect our city and country.

Sung: We pray to the Lord.

            Sung Response: Lord, hear our prayer

For openness and compassion: that we may see and hear the sufferings of our sisters and brothers and respond to their needs.

Sung: We pray to the Lord.

            Sung Response: Lord, hear our prayer

For all the lives this new family will touch: that people will find love and compassion in their home.

Sung: We pray to the Lord.

            Sung Response: Lord hear our prayer

For all our deceased loved ones, especially (groom’s dad), that they may rejoice in the infinite mercy and eternal life of the Lord.

Sung: We pray to the Lord.

            Sung Response: Lord, hear our prayer

@starfish: One of the personalized ones mentioned someone suffering from Stage 4 cancer….

I also thought the depression and anxiety one was good…
