My dad called me a little earlier today and told me that my cousin Rick, his wife Courtney and their daughter Ava were involved in this incident where a tree fell on them while in the Smoky Mountains National Park.
On the first page it reads:
“Three members of another family were also injured in the incident, including a 7-year-old girl who was trapped under water by the tree, Jordan said. Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and revived the girl, Jordan said.
She and her father — who sustained serious injuries including back injuries, broken ribs and a collapsed lung — were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. The girl’s mother was also injured, but less seriously, and was taken by ambulance to the same hospital, Jordan said.”
It makes me sick to my stomach to think of Ava trapped under a tree. They are all stable now, but please if you could keep them in your thoughts and prayers for speedy recovery.

@edub: Yes! Thank you for asking. Ava was released a few days after with only soreness. Her mom, Courtney, was released Wednesday evening- Her right arm from knuckles to armpit is in a cast, her left wrist and hand are also in a cast. Rick was released Friday afternoon. Which is like a miracle because of how much was wrong with him. But he was medically stable and so he was good to go.
Courtney’s cousin from Houston drove to Knoxville with their Camper as soon as they knew Rick was being released. So he was able to return to Louisiana from Tennessee comfortably. They got home last yesterday evening and are settled at Courtney’s aunt house in Baton Rouge.
It’s going to be a good 8 weeks before he can even stop wearing his neck/back brace, but he’s a strong guy, and they will make it through this. =)
