Beautiful! I had a pre-gagement ring too. I need to get it resized so I can wear it on my right hand because it just feels odd not to wear it anymore. It’s a blue topaz, princess cut ring (the picture isn’t actually it, but it’s the closest I can find online right now. The stone isn’t a birthstone or anything, it was just something he liked and picked out 🙂

i got a promise ring from my fiance for our first christmas together. it has our birthstones on it: ruby for me, diamond for him and it’s engraved with our names.

it was really sweet of him to get it for me, but 4 months later we bought our engagement/wedding rings (we hadn’t planned to, it just worked out that way) and 3 months after that, he popped the question. so it was kinda like,  “why even bother with a promise ring?” hah…but i loved it and it was so sweet of him and at the time, i don’t think either of us expected we’d want to be engaged/married so soon after, so…

my mom, on the other hand, was certain that we would get impatient (especially since we’re in a long distance relationship) and want to hit the fast forward button. she was right, heheh..

i got a promise ring from my Fiance about two years into our relationship, yellow gold with a tiny tiny diamond, and i wore it on my left hand so it did look like an engagement ring i guess (but my fingers grew so i couldn’t wear it anymore, and didn’t want to get it resized again, i wanted my finger to be empty when he proposed!)

@katebell17:  hmm i’ve never heard that the right hand ring symbolizes relationship, good to know!

sorry a brief side question..(i could start a new thread if that would be better..please let me know)

on that note, i have this ring which i have referenced here http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/is-my-ring-too-tight

it doesn’t fit on my right hand (struggling with pain to get it over the knuckle then really tight on the finger) and i don’t feel comfortable resizing it because i know it could crack the material Boyfriend or Best Friend used.  so i wore it on my left hand for a few days.  people have asked me excitedly if i have gotten engaged and it is sort of awkward to tell them that i am not.  i don’t want to look like i am pretending to be engaged but i don’t want to not wear it because he put a lot of effort into making it/it is really meaningful.

did those of you who wore it on the left deal with this? any tips? 🙂

I got one a little over a year ago.  We had been dating about three months (after the first month, we kinda flew but we’ve since slowed down so we can really build a good foundation for a lasting relationship and strong future) and I was in college on the west coast and he was back home in college on the east coast.  He flew 3,000 miles to visit me and after we visited the Space Needle (I was in school in Seattle. I have such a love/ hate relationship with that city now…) he put the ring on my finger.  Amazingly, it fit perfectly.  It was his grandmother’s wedding ring.  It’s an oval piece of onyx set in gold.  Neither of us like gold and I kind of detest black and gold (reminds me of the Pittsburgh Steelers D: blehhhh.) but I love this ring because it meant a lot to him that his grandmother trusted him with it and he had it for two years, waiting for the right girl to give it to.

@tenacity:  I wore my grandma’s ring on my ‘ring’ finger before we got engaged.  Nobody ever thought it was an engagement ring, partiallly because it isn’t just a standard diamond, but I think the bigger thing is that I wore a pinky ring next to it.  I think it made it look more like I was just wearing jewlery.

sorry if off-topic.

We both have plain bands that we wear. We got them shortly after we started dating. I wear mine on my right hand [need to leave my left open for the “real” ring], but he wears his on his left ring finger.

@loving_life:  hmm that is true, more jewelry will probably distract people. i’m not a big jewelry person but will try to find some other stuff. thx
