I found a high end bridal consignment shop near my house, and I think I am going to look for dresses there. They do have brand new dresses, but they also “pre-loved” dresses. I haven’t been there yet, but I’m pretty sure they inspect the dresses very thoroughly before putting them on the rack. I don’t know if I even want to look at any of the used ones. On the other hand, I might be able to find a really nice, fancy used dress that I would never be able to afford if it was brand new.
Would you consider buying and wearing a used dress?

You can check out Preownedweddingdresses.com as well 😀

My dress was used. NotFroofy’s was a sample. We got both of them from a consignment shop. Honestly, so long as it is clean and in good shape, I don’t see why anyone would even hesitate. All your guests will see is that you are wearing a beautiful dress, not whether anyone wore it before you.
The only thing I would caution you is that if you are buying from another bride, rather than a consignment store, check whether the dress has been cleaned. If you have to have it cleaned, that may eliminate a lot of your savings.

Buying a used dress is a great way to save money or get that designer dress you may not have been able to afford at a good price. I mean, even a “used” dress has only been worn for one day! Also check out Once Wed.

Lots of people do it now a day. I don’t see a problem with it! Especially if it was my dream dress. Unfortunately, my dream dress used is still $3000 :/ ($13,000 new)

I actually bought two dresses and sold the first new with tags as a bridal consignment shop. I think there are really good deals to be found, you just have to look for them. Some of the dressses they carried were really modern and some seemed rather dated.

Two of my dresses were from sample shops, they needed cleaning and some beading replaced but for the over $1000 I saved totally worth it.

I would totally buy a pre-owned dress. When you think about it, they’ve only been worn once! and the best part, no one will ever be able to tell that it’s “used”

I bought my dress from a consignment shop! It’s a Paloma Blanca that would have cost a very pretty penny to buy brand new. It was altered to fit me perfectly, and I definitely view it as MY dress 🙂 I will probably reconsign it once I’m done with it so it can be enjoyed again by someone else.

I personally wont go for a preowned dress. I dont understand the argument that the gown has only been worn once, because its not like a pair of jeans that is meant to be worn multiple times to different events

I know it’s supposed to be bad luck but I got my RINGS from a PAWNSHOP. If I’m willing to do that because I can’t afford much why not get a used dress? I didn’t have to because mine was on sale but I would have if I found one I liked.

@bells: I think the point of the argument is that for some brides, it’s not worth the extra hundreds or thousands it would cost to get the same dress brand new. It can be a lot of money to splurge on what is basically a super fancy party dress that you can only ever wear once.

I’m not superstitious or anything and would totally buy a used or pre-loved gown. It seem so ridiculous and wasteful to me to spend so much money on a piece of clothing and never let it be worn again. Your daughter will probably think it looks old and dated and not her taste, lol. It’s not like you’re ever going to wear it again for yourself, so why not pass it on? I don’t believe in wasting things so frivilously, personally.
Could I afford an expensive new gown? Sure. Do I think that would be a super huge waste of my money? Yup.

i would consider it for sure. especially if i found my dream dress and it was extremely out of my budget. in fact, i would rather buy a used dress that was worn once, than a sample in the store that has been tried on a 100 times.

I would definitely consider it. None of the guests are going to know, and you may score a fabulous deal!
