I am waiting to read “The Meaning of Marriage” by Tim Keller. This book debunks the “soul-mate” and “right person” ideology and talks about biblical principals for marriage.

I read “5 things i wish i knew before i got married” by gary chapman, which was a very practical book!

We used “Preparing for Marriage” for our pre-marital counseling and it is by FAR one of my favorite pre-marital books… even for those who aren’t Christian b/c of the 2 worksheets it has to cover literally EVERYTHING…. You’d be surprised the issues that come up after marriage that people just didn’t talk about (ie. having kids timelines, how to spend money on family, career changes, household duties, etc)

Then there’s “Inviting God into Your Wedding” was also great b/c it’s not a cover to cover read but great for those moments where we as brides just need to stop and re-collect.

As for Marriage series we love:

Jimmy Evans “Indestructible Marriage”, “Sex, Love, & Communication”, & “You, Me, & Money” all found here

And another great serie I love for raising kids & really just learning how to edify people in general is “Biblical Parenting 101” by Joe McGee (who also has some great Marriage material)

After some looking around, I recently ordered the Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts workbooks. It is my second marriage and they have a specific version for that as well as seperate workbooks for men and women.  We haven’t started on them yet.

@the boss of you:  Oh OH…. that was an important thing for me too since I was previously married AND have a son……. That was one of the selling points of the Preparing for Marriage book we used, b/c it goes through that as part of the “personal history” and “great expectations” worksheets! =D

I’ve been married over eight years and am a readaholic who buys a new marriage book every time we’ve ever had a big fight…so, I estimate that I’ve read them all? Haha. The one that always gives the best advice on everysubject is called “laugh your way to a better marriage” by Mark gungor. Ive bought this book about 8 times because I’m always giving my copy away to people. 😉
