I recently bought a pre owned dress and although it is gorgeous and I LOVE it, there are a few problems. It really needs cleaning and just a few small alterations and some snags snipped. Would it be better to have it cleaned or altered first?
Also, It did not come with the laces needed for the corset. It is an Ivory Maggie dress. Any ideas where I can find laces that would work well?

Have the alterations done first. You won’t have to worry about any marks from the seamstress.

I opted to clean mine first at a small family owned place $57 so I could be sure any stains would come out before paying for alterations.

THANK YOU! My preowned dress just arrived and it needs a cleaning. I think I will have to clean it before alterations just because silk shrinks apparently? But then I’ve also heard that it may get dirty during alterations with it being passed around so much. We’ll see!
