There have a lot of posts before about this…you should search.

But for me, no.  I talked to both my regular doctor and my OB and neither seemed to really care honestly!  They just said to take prenatals and eat healthily (and not to smoke…which didn’t apply).

Some other ladies on here did bloodwork ahead of time, but I guess my HMO waits until there is a problem!

We’re not yet TTC (it’ll be a while) but I’ve been reading up on it since I’ve been trying to get extra fit and healthy for my wedding and then plan to maintain that until we’re at that point. I plan to just ask my ob/gyn during my annual visit to see if she thinks I/we should be doing anything in particular.

I agree with the PP’s post, just eat healthy, get fit, and drop bad habits. I’m reading ‘Taking Charge of Your Fertility’ right now, and I really think it will help to really know my cycles and my body’s changes so that I’m more aware of myself once the time comes to TTC. Good luck! *And have fun 😉 *

i had one, with my PC and i went over things with my gyn when i was there for another issue, she made a plan for things and i will go back right before we TTC. i think it depends on the individual and the drs. i can only speak to my experiences, so as far as what was done:

from my PC:

-updated any vaccines (you can’t get a lot of them once you are pregnant, and if you get one of the things they can prevent, it can be life threatening to the fetus. i got mine early because i didn’t want any vaccines within 6 month of TTC, all of the metal & yucky stuff in them make me uneasy)

-was told to have cleaning and any needed x-rays/work done at the dentist prior to TTC (women with gum disease are more likely to go into preterm labor & have other complications)

-went over medications & either coming off of them before getting pregnant or altering dose while pregnant

-talked about maintaining activity while pregnant

-was told to continue to take calcium, and switch my reg vit to prenatal vits 3 months before TTC

-was told to get an eye exam

-had blood taken to check for immunities and get make sure all of my levels looked good and there were no issues i needed to fix

from my gyn at our last appt:

“stay on the birth control so you keep getting your periods, if you go 2 months with out one, call me. then, when you want to be get pregnant, come in i i will give you something to make you ovulate.” (probably not what most people are told, but it’s been established that on my own, i don’t)

YEs, I got tested to make sure I didn’t need any boosters.

She also told me about having to wait 3 months after going off the pill before TTC.

We also talked about who could be my potential doctor while pregnant (she doesn’t do babies), so that I could think about which of 2 doctors I want.
