I think they are absolutely lovely, and it sounds like they’re what you wanted!

I think they’re beautiful! Who cares if your Future Mother-In-Law doesn’t like the wedding pictures? Not her wedding.

I think they’re lovely. They have a nice tone, and I like that they’re not all super-smiley.

She doesn’t have to like them. They aren’t her pictures.

I agree with PPs-
1. They’re gorgeous
2. It’s not her wedding.

“Yes, the wedding photos will be like this, so get used to it.” (If only you could say that!)

I’d ask your photographer if he could take a few photos on your wedding day that would appeal to FMIL- a couple of the “fake smiley and over happy ones”. Tough noogies if she doesn’t like the rest. :)-

I think they’re totally fine!

When we got my pro photos back, BOTH of our mothers said how much they loved the forced/posed “portraits” of the families. They were our absolute least favorite! I think some of that difference in opinion is just from age…30 years ago I don’t think photographers were quite so innovative and so our parents aren’t used to that style of photography for formal events.

The only problem I can see is that they are farther away, but you can explain to her that once you get the high-res versions you can easily crop them and that that is just a different shooting style that you and Fiance were drawn to.

these are awesome! let her hate if she wants to! I think some older don’t “get” the artsy picture thing. They’re used to your typical boring up close portraits. But, these are gorgeous pictures and I absolutely love them!

There’s nothing wrong with them…they’re actually really well done. I’m saying this as a huge photography snob. I grew up with professional photographers, so I know what “not good” pre-wedding shots look like. Don’t take one negative opinion personally!

I think they’re beautiful!! I looove that last photo, I would frame that right away because it is so sweet and would make me smile every day when I got home 🙂

I love the pics also, different people have different taste you want to please your family but in the end its about you and your husband as long as you both are happy thats what counts!

I think the photos are absolutely stunning! I don’t understand why your Future Mother-In-Law is being so critical.

I personally love candid shots and ones like yours. My Fiance and I are not photogenic people, so when a fake smile/forced pose is captured, we don’t look like ourselves at all.

Ignore her, it’s your wedding photos! 🙂

Don’t forget, she probably got married in the 80’s and everything was extremely posey-posey then!  She’s just not up on current photography styles that’s all… don’t take it personally.

Is she paying for the photography?  If not who cares what she thinks about it?  Photography styles have changed a lot in the past couple of generations.  Parents rarely “get it” that you can have a beautiful photo without a big fake grin on your face.

They are great.  I’m sure the wedding photos will have more of the up close and personal type photos she likes because wedding photos tend to be more in your face.  Hopefully you will both be happy.
