I think that is soooooo freakin’ awesome!  I’ve always wanted to do this, but I’m not a runner so I’m totally intimidated.  I have started running on the treadmill again, I used to a few years ago.  It just takes a long time for my knees and shins to adapt!  I love the mentality behind your decision, this is a great way to shed the weight.  And you obviously avoid the sterotypical ‘bride on a diet’.  By the way, that’s the exact amount I have to lose too!  12 LBS.  I started going back to the gym and eating in moderation.  The food thing is important to me because I’m a foodie and I just REFUSE to be restricted to the boring stuff- life is too short!

Good luck!

Yay for you :o)

I’ve been working on half marathons (ran one in Jan and scheduled for another in April) but I’m planning on running the 2011 NYC Marathon!

@MissShoe: Good luck!  Boston is the hardest marathon in the country I believe.

To get guaranteed entry into the NYC marathon, you have to join NYRR the previous year (so this year for next year), run 9 scoring races, and volunteer at one event.  I’m working on these requirements this year for automatic entry next year.

I just ran my first 5K…much less than a marathon, but for a uber non-runner like me it was a great accomplishment and goal…I plan to enter in more races and eventually enter a 10K and then maybe a half-marathon one day.
