DH and I are planning on announcing to both of our families tomorrow on Halloween. On my side of the family, it is my cousin’s (11yrs) birthday and she wants to be apart of the reveal. We will most likely get to her house after the cake cutting, so now we are trying to figure out how to tell the family. DH is making my costume which is a skeletal body on a longsleeve black shirt and he is cutting a flap to lift and reveal a baby (he’s difficult. He didn’t want to do the regular baby on the shirt thing )
One of the ways we were thinking was taking a picture with the birthday girl (who will be dressed as an angel) & she asks why my shirt is cut and then she lifts it. we still aren’t sure about that though. Any other ideas on how to reveal including the birthday girl?

How cute!! That’s a great idea!
DH made me this shirt for Mother’s Day and that’s how I announced my pregnancy.

I think you might be trying to force it a little bit with the pic with the birthday girl, her asking about the shirt, lifting it, etc. That’s counting on a lot of little things to happen, that might not. In my experience, you have to be very direct with pregnancy announcements (literally say “We’re having a baby!”) or people will be super confused.
The shirt is a cute idea though! I would just wear that and nix the idea of trying a force a moment with the birthday girl. You should also have a backup plan if nobody notices the flap.

babylou: I think she meant the birthday girl would know to ask about it (a planned question), as she said the birthday girl wanted to be in on the reveal.

If i’m wrong, ignore this, but if the birthday girl question would be planned and she knows to ask.. I think that would be a cute idea to incorporate her.

BabyLou might be right about people needing it to be literally spelled out, so why not let the birthday girl do that part? She can point to your shirt, and you lift it, and then she can yell “They’re having a baby!” real loud. Kids love yelling. 🙂 Should work.

babylou: MrsFNL: koi424: Thank you for your input. We had a planned question for the flap. It worked great! She was so excited to help and she did a great job! We took pictures then as we were done, she notices the shirt, lifted it and said something along the lines of “What is that?” and there was someone in the group that yelled out, “Are you pregnant?” Everyone was so surprised and excited!
