Hi Bees,
Just an FYI in case anyone besides me is curious about this… there is a company called Keeki Pure and Simple, and they make nail polish, lip gloss, and some basic skin care products. I’ve been buying their nail polish for a couple of years now because it is gluten-free (chipped nail polish ends up in food, and gets digested, and then my intestines get enraged) and I noticed the other day that their products are also all listed as being safe for pregnancy, for kids, and for cancer patients! Awesome! Anyway I just thought I would pass that on. I’m really trying to keep everything as natural as possible while I’m pregnant (and really in general anyway) and in case anyone else is doing so too, I recommend checking them out.

Is anyone else weirded out that gluten-free nail polish is a thing?!? It’s really strange to me that you’re actually worried about ingesting your nail polish. I wear nail polish almost all the time and I’ve never noticed it chipping and getting into my food. And I would think that it’s such a trace amount that it wouldn’t matter.

LOL I love how products market themselves as “pregnancy safe,” implying that regular nail polish is not pregnancy safe and needlessly freaking women out.

Wait… there’s a risk of accidental nail polish eating? OH GEEZE, I really HAVE heard it all now!

Wow… thanks for the respectful responses, everyone.
To those who think it’s weird to be concerned about gluten in nail polish – it’s a concern when ingesting it leads to extreme stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea for days on end. Yes, it’s possible to get that sick from a small amount. If you aren’t aware of that, count yourself lucky and go about your business, I guess.
I didn’t post this to try to make it sound like it’s what everyone should be doing. If you are happy using your regular cosmetics during pregnancy, that’s totally fine – we’re all allowed to make our choices. I simply thought I would share some information in case someone might find it helpful. There’s no need to be rude if the information doesn’t interest you. Be an adult and move on to a new thread.

loveinfinitely: Wow…really surprised by the snark in the responses to your thoughtful post. Thank you for sharing about this product that you found! A number of my friends who are pregnant are looking for pregnancy-safe nail polishes and I will definitely pass on the info!

Kayla0416: I have taken several college-level cooking courses (working toward a diploma). The instructors do not allow any of the students to wear nail polish as it does, in fact, chip and get into food. Maybe not a huge concern for people, but from a hygiene perspecting, it matters.

What’s with all the snark? If you don’t care about the nail polish, don’t comment. Why be rude to the OP?

BeeBlake: That’s understandable because cooking is very hands-on. But if you’re simply eating with a fork and knife, I don’t see how your nail polish will fleck off and get into your food. Unless you’re picking at it over your plate.

BeeBlake: Happy2bMrs: I really appreciate you two joining in here. I was really shocked when I read these rude replies. I get that not everyone is interested in the same things, but sheesh! I guess this is a glimpse of what “mommy groups” are going to be like. Ugh.
Anyway, I think it’s great that there are at least these options. When I went totally gluten-free (food) and was still getting sick, it was my doctor who told me to check my hand creams, lipsticks, nail polishes, chapsticks, etc – because all that stuff still gets into our systems. To some it might seem like overkill, but after spending almost 3 years sick as a dog, down to barely 100lbs (at 5’7) and at the mercy of a very, very angry digestive system, I do whatever it takes to look after myself.

kmark2688: But some people actually make their own food, not just eat it with a knife and fork.
And despite the fact that you’ve never noticed that your polish flecks off into your food, the OP described her experience as someone with (I’m guessing) Celiac’s disease and has experienced it and gotten sick over it.
Again, I’m just wondering why the need for such snark in response to the OP’s post…she was just trying to be helpful and the wolves came out.

BeeBlake: there are tons of nail polishes that are “pregnancy safe”. Essie, OPI, Sally Hansen, Sinful Colors are just a few I know off the top of my head. Tell your friends they can find out if polish is safe by looking to see if they’re “3-Free”.

loveinfinitely: Your experience is exactly why there are lots of companies making gluten-free make-up these days.
I have two close family members with Celiac’s disease and every exposure or cross-contamination can result in them getting really sick. Some of the posters on here obviously don’t have to worry about this, which is probably the reason for the snark remarks.

IzzyBear: Thanks for the info! I will pass it along…hopefully one day I will need it for myself too 😉
