Hey everyone…Everyone knows before getting pregnant that there are certain issues you may have to deal with (morning sickness, for example). So just curious but what are/were some pregnancy symptoms you have/had that you didn’t at all expect?
I would have to say I had no idea I’d have to deal with nasal congestion. I swear, I’ve had a stuffy nose since December. And when I blow my nose, 9 out of 10 times there’s blood in the tissue. Lovely, I know.
Also, I burp…a LOT. Ever since I was 8 weeks, I spend a good hour (or two) burping after every little thing I eat. Even a mint or chewing gum causes me to burp. At first it was kinda funny, I know Darling Husband got a kick out of it. After a while though, it’s really uncomfortable and makes me nauseous. It is pretty ironic though because before pregnancy, I never knew how to burp (seriously, Darling Husband tried teaching me and I never could). Now I could probably win a burp contest.
Anyone else have some interesting symptoms that they didn’t expect?

Bloating!!! So much so soon, I feel “fat” and I’m only 4-5 weeks. Also food aversions to food that I love! Seriously, we’re talking mashed potato aversion!?? Who woulda thunk it? LOL

I will second the nasal congestion, I’ve had it the whole time so far! (currently 30 weeks)
I also wasn’t expecting that growing thicker hair would mean body/facial hair too, ugh. 😡

I’ll third nasal congestion. I heard about everything else – the bloating, the gas, the vomiting, the food aversion, the hair growth. No one ever mentioned anything about not being able to breathe.
@dreamocracy: That’s depressing! I was hoping nasal congestion is one of those things that will pass, like morning sickness. LOL

Yep, definitely the nasal congestion and bloody tissues. Blech!

Interesting, I have had nasal congestion and bloody tissues and didn’t even realize that it could be attributed to pregnancy! I just thought our house was extra dry this winter.
I didn’t expect my belly growing to hurt so much. Sometimes just touching it makes me want to cry out in pain. Everything stretching and so tight, yeesh. In the same vein, my pubic bone is KILLING ME to the point where on really bad days, I can barely get my pants on or get out of the car. I just didn’t know. I expected to feel fat and uncomfortable (and I do) but I didn’t think it would hurt this much.

My BFF had nasal congestion all throughout her pregnancy and it went away the minute she gave birth. The same happenned to my co-worker. That’s one odd symptom I sure dont look forward to.

I was surprised at how my immune system took a hit. I got 2 colds, one right after the other and it took so much longer to recover.

Ooh let’s see!..
- Feeling sweaty all the time and needing more showers
- Stiff, swollen, achey hands and feet
- Itchy skin as stretch marks appear
- Constant heartburn at night
- Hair on stomach
- Nose bleeds
So unglamorous! 🙁
Edit: also – vomiting stomach acid as opposed to food 🙁

My heart races or pounds really hard. It feels like I just ran down the stairs or I drank too much caffeine when in reality, I’m just laying there trying to fall asleep.

I totally wasn’t expecting that the smell aversion thing could extend to people as well – for a few weeks, I couldn’t get close to Darling Husband without feeling sick! He’s a super clean guy, but his natural smell made me gag. Such a horrible symptom and super random! So glad that’s gone now, poor guy.

I was really ignorant about pregnancy! I didn’t expect:
–morning sickness to last all day and not go away even after I’ve vomited
–really bad back pain from joint dysfunction, not from the weight of my belly
–feeling down in the dumps

puking and almost pooping yourself at the same time
constipation so bad it makes you ache
beign so tired your afraid to drive home alone!
Did I mention I’m only 8 weeks lol. Oh well… anything for baby!

I didn’t realize morning sickness would hit me so soon! I’d have to be around 5 weeks right now, maybe a little more, and I’ve already had to ask for my shifts to be worked around that!
I never thought chocolate would make me gag. NEVER!
I thought I was genuinely sick and my cold was causing false positives, not the positives causing the cold!
I didn’t realize sleeplessness meant not getting to sleep until 5am.
I didn’t realize my heart would start beating so hard and so fast without warning.
I ONLY JUST on these forums learnt that the reason I was short of breath yesterday was pregnancy.
