Babily:  I used an FRER the night before my period was due and got a BFP!

I took one a few days (maybe two or three?) after my missed period. It came back very positive. 🙂

Personally, I waited until my period was two days late.

Babily:  i took one maybe a day or two my period was due bc my boobs were on fire, they hurt soooo bad. It came back positive, and then I waited til I was supposed to get my period just to make sure and then I went to the doctor to get my blood tested to confirm.

Babily:  I waited until my period was two or three days late, but it was SUCH a strong positive I easily could’ve done it sooner- I was just out of town and wanted to be with my husband when I tested. Good luck to you!

As an ER doc who sees most of the “5 week pregnant” vaginal bleeders who end up miscarrying. I beg all my friends to wait until they’re a good 2-4 weeks late on their period before taking a pregnancy test. The earlier you are the more likely you are to miscarry (or to have a pregnancy that never really implants at all and you just have a positive pregnancy test and a late heavy period), and it makes women sooo sad. I feel like they would do better if they just waited until they were a little farther along before getting that positive pregnancy test…that way the odds of having an actual implanted pregnancy is higher.

2monthweddingplanner:  My doctor wants to see you at 8 weeks for a dating ultrasound, so waiting an entire month after a missed period seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Westwood:  I said 2-4 weeks…and as long as you get the dating ultrasound before 12 weeks you’re fine. So its really not that unreasonable.

Its an opinion, obviously no one has to listen to me. But I make “4 or 5 week pregnant” women cry 2-3 times per shift because they “lost the baby” and the fact of the matter is they were probably never pregnant at all and if they had just waited a little longer they could have saved themselves some heart ache.

2monthweddingplanner:  That is really tough to do when you are tracking cycles, charting, etc. Not every woman who is TTC is doing that but lots on here do. Besides, TTC and being that late also gets your hopes up quite a bit.

And, just for me, I didn’t cut out alcohol or other forbidden foods until I saw a positive pregnancy test. I know that blood sharing is probably not likely a month after missed period but still…I think it’s best to know as soon as possible to start making changes.

I got my BFP (and the only time I tested) on 14 DPO.  I think it was the day my period was due!

2monthweddingplanner: a chemical pregnancy is stll a pregnancy, and frankly saying they were never pregnant is quite offensive IMO.

I tested early, about 10DPO, because I was tracking BBT so I knew exactly when I ovulated. I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant but I know chemical pregnancies are fairly common so if I wasn’t tracking, Id test a day or two after my period was due (Though my cycles were so irregular I never knew when my period was due. Which is why I started temping)
