You will need to retest because you didn’t check the test within the required time period.  Generally, false positives are pretty hard to get.  If you test positive, you should discotinue your birth control.  Talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions.

@2331epic: Also, if you’re late (after you’re missed period), testing anytime during the day is generally fine.  But then again, I’m an impatient person and wouldn’t be able to wait until the morning, LOL.

Edit: Here’s a decent webpage about false positives.

@EvaBostonTerrier: That’s true, if I was a week late my ass would be at the 24 hour Walmart chugging a bottle of water and buying a test right now. The first morning pee is generally suggested when you’re testing before your period is due.

ETA: Because I’m crazy impatient.

yeah, it’s usually easier to get a false negative than a false positive.  Not impossible, but it can happen.

I WILL say you CAN get a positive followed by a negative.  which means it was probably a “chemical pregnancy”.  A friend of mine had two positive tests and was a week or so late and then got a negative test.  Her period start shortly after the negative. So, she was technically pregnant for a week or so, but it didn’t stick for whatever reason, and she ended up having a VERY early miscarriage.  I, on the other hand, was a week late and kept getting negative tests.  I started after calling the dr’s office, lol.

So, it’s impossible to tell what you result will be, but it’s more than likely (watch me be wrong, lol) that you are.

good luck with the test tomorrow!!!

Kind of the same thing happened to me! They say a line’s a line no matter how faint it is. I went and bought a “pregnant or not pregnant” test just to be 2943842% sure.

ETA: I took my tests at 10pm after my period hadn’t shown for a week, I’d be testing now if I were you! 🙂
