@RedBullFueled:  That might sound like gibberish to the OP if she doesn’t know the acronyms. haha! OP, you can take a home pregnancy test (HPT) once you’ve missed your period or like RedBull said after a certain amount of days past ovulation (DPO), usually about two weeks, thus, the two week wait (TWW).

The one time in my life I took a pregnancy test, I waited until the day after my period was due.

I was charting, so I waited until 11 days after I ovulated but three days before my missed period, and got a squinter.

I second a PP that it depends on your DPO.  The strength of your hormones goes up each day so I’ve never taken one earlier than 10 DPO….but then again I’ve never had a positive so I don’t know if/when it would show up.  Every single stinkin’ woman I’ve known who wasn’t trying always took one the day they were supposed to get AF and got their BFP.  Maybe that’s the difference between those of us trying and those of us who aren’t???

I got my BFP at 10 DPO but I was charting, so I knew when the earliest I could start trying was. I was actually planning on taking the test a day later but another bee convinced me to try early and the line wasn’t even that light considering how early it was.

Good luck!!

I made the mistake of starting to test at 9 DPO, I’m now 14 DPO and still getting big fat negatives (BFN) which is really really depressing and emotionally draining. If you can hold out, please wait until you are actually late. It may save you anxiety, hopefully unnecessary heartache and money (those tests are expensive and addictive!).

Good luck! Fingers crossed that you are lucky and get a BFP (big fat positive) on your first try!

I use to test early. After so many BFN, I don’t test until AF is late.

I bought a cheep pack of lh strips that came with 20 HCG test strips… this is my first month TTC and was also my first month to use the LH test strips, it was awesome to see the test line starting to get darker.   I am only 7DPO but am already testing lol  not getting my hopes up but I do want to see how soon I can get a BFP if I do get one.

@kamielynn:  Just be careful! I did the same thing and am now discouraged that I’m 14 DPO (the longest luteal phase I’ve had since I started charting 6 months ago by 4 days) and still getting BFN, it is confusing, sad and worrisome when it doesn’t need to be. If I hadn’t been testing for the past 5 days, I would be excited and hopeful right now, instead of wondering what is wrong with me.

Someone very smart told me the first cycle is very hard because you are so excited, I wish I took her advise and tested more cautiously.

@RunningGal:  because i can never wait, i take it about 2 days before AF is due, but i think you are supposed to wait for her to be late.

@KH:  Thanks! I know I am somewhat setting my self up for disappointment.. but I just cant help it!

In just the past few weeks I have learned sooo much about my body, if I don’t get  BFP this month, we are going to wait untill June to start ttc again to avoid a Winter Birthday.

Planning on watching my cycles while we wait.
