VaticanCameos:  I don’t want to scare you and hopefully your storie has a differnt ending than mine. But with my first pregnancy I went to my doctor appt at 10wks and all they saw was a ges sac and yolk. The fetus had stopped growing at 5wks, I eneded up having a natural miscarriage two days after the appointment. With my second pregnancy I was able to hear the fetus hearbeat at 6wks. If you are 7wks and they are seeing only a ges sac than I’d be worried. Specially if they mentioned a D&C beacuase that is a surgery to remove a lost pregnancy that is not miscarrying on its own. Anyways good luck today and hopefully you get some good news.

Did your doctor know that you already had levels taken?  Hcg levels are pointless unless you have 2 to compare to each other.  Increasing levels are a good sign, while decreasing levels are a bad sign.  Personally, if I were you, I would push for this very quick blood test that could possibly give you some good information within 24 hours, since you already had your levels done once.

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’ve been there and I feel for you.  The previous poster is correct, HCG levels mean nothing without having 2 to compare. You are still early in the game, but I’m currently 14 weeks along and we heard the heartbeat at 6w2d, so it’s a bit concerning that they haven’t detected a heartbeat yet, but a lot of people don’t hear the heartbeat until they are around 8 weeks. So hang on to hope, see if your OB’s office will do another HCG and compare it to the one you had at the ER. HUGS!

I have had both endings here.  FWIW though, my last baby they could not see the heart beat until in 8 weeks.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I just miscarried naturally at 8 weeks. It was a huge surprise to see blood when I started spotting because I didn’t bleed at all during my first and healthy pregnancy. I know how stressful it is. I kept hoping that my bleeding wasn’t anything to worry about, but it got heavier and heavier. Its impossible to give up hope!

Good luck!!!

Btw, apprently not a lot of people are told this, but in the first weeks you should go for the ultrasound scan with a full bladder. It gives the image better contrast and is easier to see the tiny embryo.

I had two miscarriages last year one at 11 weeks and one at 7 weeks. It shocks me they are jumping to a d&c my doctors stressed they wanted me to try and pass everything naturally. My fingers are crossed for you!

Actually at more than 5 weeks once a sac is visible, my RE did not bother with HCG levels either.  He said that once the sac is visible, they don’t really give as much information about teh viability of the embryo because it may not follow the trend of doubling every 48 hours like they do in the first 2-3weeks of a positive pregnacy test.   Once the sac/embryo is seen, then its that measurement that they tend to look at as it should be growing about 1mm a day.  It does sound odd that your doctor is not telling you any info about your est due date or size or anything like that.   If you were 3 days late on April 25, you should be 10 weeks now and I think they should clearly be able to see a fetus of at least 3 cm looking very human like, especially if they did a vaginal u/s with a heartbeat.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything is ok!

If it’s any consolation beginning week 7 I spotted brown blood all throughout my 1st trimester. It was unnerving but totally normal.

I agree with your stance of waiting for D&C till it’s a thousand percent unviable. Also, good job contacting another doctor and ditching the DQ shoveler.

I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this long, drawn out version of an already horrible experience. Be good to yourself.
