Everything I read says that you’re not supposed to gain much weight in the 1st trimester. Well at 8 weeks, I am up 7 pounds already! At 6 weeks I was down 1 pound so it two weeks I gained 8 pounds. I am constantly sick so I don’t know how this is happening. When I can eat, I know the thing my body keeps down the most is carbs, but I didn’t think I was eating that much. I just eat what I can and eat when I’m hungy.
How quickly did other bees put on weight?
I’m not worried so much about the scale as I am being healthy. I started at 132,and I’m 5’4 so the doctor said I should gain about 30-35 pounds during the pregnancy.

I’m 28 weeks and have really started packing it on. Blergh.

I can’t help you too much as I’m only 12 weeks, but I’ve only gained a pound or two right now…and I get the feeling that it’s water weight since it’s been fluctuating the last few days.
The thing is though, with bloat and everything, you can totally tell that I’m not my normal self. I feel as if I look pregnant, and some people who I’ve told tell me they can see just a little bump. I’m 5’1″ and have been 115 for a while now. I go anywhere between 113 and 117 when I weigh myself every morning.

I’m 28 weeks and have gained 8lbs. However, I was super sick in the first tri and lost 25lbs. So in the last 10 weeks I have gained 8lbs of that back.

I’m the same height and I gained 14lbs by my 13 week appt. I was up 24 pounds by week 20. It slowed down after that. I was the same way, eating carbs because they were all that tasted good. Everything else was thrown up. If you look into the low glycemic diet it’s really helpful to keeping your weight in check. I ate 2000 calories a day, eating every 2 hours. I only started that towards 20 weeks though. My doctor told me not to worry about it because I certainly wasn’t on my way to a 70 lb weight gain which she’s seen plenty of times. Hang in there!

I gained 3 lbs in the first trimester (all of it by week 10) and then didn’t gain another pound til like week 17. I was starving in the first trimester. By 20 weeks, I’d gained 8 lbs. By week 22, was up 10 lbs. Then it started to pack on! Week 26 was up 16 lbs, then at 30 weeks, up 21 lbs. And I’m only 5’2 and pre-pregnancy was 114 lbs (5 lbs more than my “normal”)! My midwife said around 25 lbs would be good for me, but I’m just hoping to keep it “around” 30 lbs now.

I gained about 10 pounds in the first trimester 🙁 I was starving and nauseous all the time. The only cure for my nausea was keeping my stomach full…and only carbs worked! My doctor said I should only gain 20-25 lbs. because I was 165 and 5’7…but at week 37 I am now 35 lbs. I’m hoping to stay below 40.

I gained about 5-7lbs or so because around 6-9 weeks pregnant, I ate like a horse. I was starving and if I didn’t eat I was really sick. Luckily, that subsided a few weeks ago.

It’s amazing how everyone’s weight gain is all over place and yet you can read all of these books that put every woman into the same category. I keep reading an average of 3lbs duing the first trimester.
I right now am just trying to get through the day and function. I am sick enough now that I feel like if I start tracking what I eat and eat less then I have no clue how I’ll make it through a full day.

I think it’s different for everyone. I know for me, I would do absolutely nothing differently from one month to the next (eat a similar amount, healthy diet, same amount of exercise), and one month I’d gain only 1 pound, the next month I’d gain 7. There was no rhyme or reason to it, and yes, the 7 pound months were depressing for me. If it makes you feel any better, it came off pretty quickly/effortlessly for me, so maybe you’ll be the same!

At 19 weeks I’m just getting back up to pre-pregnancy weight after losing 10 pounds during the first trimester (when I had no appetite, puked a lot, and could only eat peanut butter sandwiches and oatmeal). I’m hoping to gain what I need to slowly and steadily, but my current insatiable craving is donut sticks snack cakes…

@MalbecMe- That’s exactly how I am. Glad to know it came off quickly. Think I should just get rid of the scale for now because it certainly isn’t helping.
@FutureMrsMcK- Since you haven’t gained any weight yet then I don’t see the harm in the donut stick snack cakes 😉

I was one of those people who lost weight during the 1st trimester. I think it’s difficult to feel good about your weight during early pregnancy no matter what. If you gain during your 1st trimester you feel like you’re gaining too fast. If you lose during your 1st trimester then you feel like you aren’t nourishing your baby. It’s kind of a no-win situation, so my advice is to try to eat healthy and don’t worry about the numbers unless your doctor tells you to.

I had no real morning sickness the first trimester but I didn’t have a large appetite. I gained about a pound per appointment and was up somewhere between 4-6 pounds at my 16 week appointment (which I was almost 17 weeks). At my 20 week appointment that shot up to about 11 pounds gained as my appetite started to get bigger. And now I’m looking at around 14-15 pounds gained and I’m 23 weeks 2 days. I’m hoping to stay within 25-30 (she told me 20-25) pounds but with how fast I’m gaining lately, I’m not sure that’ll happen.

I’m a little over 9 weeks and I’ve been fluctuating between 2 and 5 pounds up from pre-pregnancy weight. Carbs are the only thing that sound good. Booooo. I’m sure part of it also is from the sharp decrease in exercise. Before I got PG I was working out pretty intensely (long runs, spin classes and pilates) almost every day and now I just walk and do arms.
