I JUST found out that my sister-in-law, who is my Maid of Honor, is pregnant. Problem is, my wedding is early April and she’s due in late June, so she’ll definitely be showing. And we already bought the dresses. And they’re discontinued.
ACK!
Obviously she’s going to have to buy a new dress.. and she’s ok with this… and I’m not mad at her (they’ve tried so hard for kids in the past that they didn’t think they could have any more… they have two boys but had to have medical treatments for her to get pregnant with them… so this is a happy surprise!) but I have NO idea what she’ll be wearing.
I was going for tea length dresses for the girls (there are only two, and I wanted them to be in the same dress.. but that’s not happening… so I at least want them to be similar in length!) but I’m not seeing anything really. Does anyone have any suggestions for pregnant-friendly bridesmaid dresses? The color we’re doing is horizon blue, so I think I’m going to have to stick with David’s Bridal so the colors match.
Any thoughts? Help? Please! Yeah, I’m happy for her, but my wedding is in mess than 6 months so I’m a little frazzled by this news.

6 months is plenty of time to find and order a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress. i know one designer – alfred sung i think, has maternity Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses in their collection, you could start there. And in general, empire waist styles are good for pregnancy. I had a Bridesmaid or Best Man get pregnant after she ordered her dress as well – luckily it was coincidentally an empire waist and she had ordered the bigger of two sizes that she fell in between, so when my wedding came and she was just starting to show and had gained weight, the dress fit perfectly. Also, since she is your Maid/Matron of Honor, her being in a different dress is normal for MOHs, so i wouldn’t worry about everyone not wearing the same dress.

The problem is that I want them to be in the same color… and it won’t match if we get it elsewhere. Honestly, even though the Maid/Matron of Honor can be in a different dress, since we only have two girls we didn’t want that… we wanted them both to be in the same dress. I had already picked out shoes and accessories and everything with this style of dress in mind, which is throwing everything off right now… I have to rethink EVERYTHING for both girls. I searched for 8 months before I found a bridesmaid dress that I even liked, so this is stressing me because now I can’t have the dress that I want on both girls, and with only two in the wedding party and them not wearing the same dress, it won’t look right to me. But I can’t exactly say that to my Maid/Matron of Honor because she’ll be hurt. It’s not that she planned it. But I’m really frazzled right now.

Check with a seamstress! She may be able to help you source a matching fabric and make a matching/similar dress in a style that works for a pregnant gal.
Two of my three bridesmaids are going to be 8 months pregnant. I had an idea they were trying or getting ready to try when we picked our date, and that actually played into our choice. Neither was pregnant at the time though, and honestly, didn’t expect them to get pregnant right away. The CRAZY part is they both are due the same date – May 16!!! I’m so glad we picked a date earlier than we were originally thinking. I’d way rather have a bridesmaid 35 weeks pregnant than 2 weeks post-partum π
We are having dresses custom made with a seamstress.

@NAvery: Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the dresses we picked out will not work for a pregnant belly… I purposely stayed away from empire waist dresses because I hate how they look. And I’ve had bad luck with custom dresses both times I’ve had to wear them in weddings as a bridesmaid and I don’t trust any local seamstresses or tailors. We’re going to probably have to go with a store dress, and unfortunately my Maid/Matron of Honor lives far enough away from me and has the opposite schedule of mine during the school year (she’s a teacher) so it’s going to make dress shopping difficult.
I’m sure I’ll calm down later… maybe… but 8 months work down the drain along with a vision. *sigh*

My Maid/Matron of Honor was pregnant in my wedding too the wedding was in late June she had the baby the 1st week in September. She wore the same dress as the other girls just got a bigger size. There was a corset in the back so it helped but she looked great and felt comfortable. Maybe you could just have a corset put into the back of her current dress. =)

@HappilyEverAfter54: It would have to be a REALLY big/open corset in the back, because she’s currently a size 4 and usually goes up to a size 12+ when she’s pregnant because of the way she carries. And we can’t order a larger size of the dress because it’s discontinued… they discontinued them the week that we ordered them, actually.
I’m just sad.
This is the dress that we ordered, except in Horizon Blue, and looking at it I don’t think that it will look good on someone pregnant. Especially not with a big baby bump, so I’m going to have to get something different for her anyway, even though I HATE that.

Aww, sorry to hear about the dress debacle…I can somewhat relate—-I have 3 ladies in my bridal party pregnant (all 3 happened between last spring-summer). Lucky for us I think all the dresses will still fit as they are flowy. My sister is furthest along (7 months on our wedding day) but she is my matron of honor so if she needs another dress, no biggie. π
On the bright side, π I’m sure all the girls will still look beautiful in whatever dresses they wear, and you will have a fantastic day and bridal party!

Take a deep breath and relax! My wedding is before yours and I haven’t even chosen Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses yet so you have plenty of time!
Just have her pick a dress in the same color and material and you will be good to go! I’m sure DB has maternity dresses, but a seamstress should be able to tell you what dresses can and cannot be easily altered for a baby bump. They’ll also know how big she should order the dress.
No worries, my sis may or may not be prego at my wedding – at least you know now and can plan accordingly!
Congrats on being an aunt! π

You can try looking for a bigger size of the same dress on ebay or weddingbee classifieds. I have also noticed that sometimes they discontinue a dress and then bring it back.

6 months of plenty of time for DB bridesmaids dresses, don’t worry. π Even my special order DB color (holly) came in about 3 months.
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Browse_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Shop-By-Color?&colorName=Horizon Looks like these are all the dresses that come in Horizon. I think a number of those could work. I was in a wedding where a bridesmaid was pregnant and we got the dresses from DB. At the store, they actually had a little “pregnancy pillow” to simulate how big a belly could be and try to stuff it under the dresses so the bridesmaid could picture how she’d look in the dress with the belly!

I checked with David’s Bridal, and they don’t have any more of the dresses we wanted in a size that will work for my Maid/Matron of Honor, and there aren’t any dresses in the correct color on Ebay, Craigslist, or any other site… so unfortunately I’m going to have to have her get a different style of dress. Yes, I know that a lot of people have the Maid/Matron of Honor wear a different dress, but that’s not the vision I wanted for my wedding… so this kinda sucks. But I don’t have a choice. Even though I don’t like any of the other dresses. So I’m going to have a dress I don’t like in my wedding. π
I’m just not excited about the dresses anymore. Just disappointed.
