Omg congratulations! That is such awesome news and I am so happy for you! I’m a fan of the not-drinking-bc-I’m-trying-to-lose-a-couple-pounds line. For one thing – for me it’s usually true! And I find no one questions it. Or I make a joke about eating my extra calories instead that night. If your friends know you were in fertility treatments etc, like Bev said – it’s easy to tie in that the doc suggested no drinking for a few weeks prior. Or just the regular fact that some people feel drinking might suppress fertility to some unknown extent so there’s always that excuse. Either way, many many congrats and enjoy that vacation!!

Congrats! Your vacation sounds heavenly :).
If you’re set on not telling, which I think is totally fair, then I’d go with the dr advising not drinking right off the bat. I was able to easily hide it by holding a beer or wine and putting it up to my lips but that was only for occasional happy hours or one off dinners/night out. A whole week requires a more thorough lie :).

Congratulations hon! What great news! Always lovely to see fellow graduates from the 1 year+ thread.
I don’t really have much more to add, but my excuse was either that I was driving, that I was under investigation for medical problems (which I was at the time), or that I had recently had a violent stomach upset only a few days previously, and didn’t want to risk it.

Congrats!! How awesome after 15 months ttc!
Say that you have a long-lingering UTI and are on a course of extended antibiotics. Would also explain pelvic pain if you are having early pregnancy cramps, bloating, need to pee often, etc. Or say you had an ovarian cyst that ruptured and taking antibiotics. Those are non-chronic conditions and would not raise suspicion.

Oh, and forgot to mention, start complaing of “symptoms” of either UTI or cyst to your friend before the trip, say that you are going to the doc to check it out, so you can have it addressed before the long trip where you would have no easy acess to healthcare.

Love all of these suggestions. At some point, this will be me. DH’s family drinks at every get together, so me not drinking would send some people questioning. However, I only usually have a couple so it may not be too noticeable. I’d probably just have DH make my drinks virgin. I drink morgan/diet so even if it’s just diet – no one would be able to know!
But, we’d probably end up telling people just to not deal with the constant questions. I don’t plan on drinking once we start TTC, so it just won’t be doing the time that we do get a BFP.

Say you’ve been having migraines and your doctor told you to stay away from alcohol. That’s what I did!

I didn’t read through all, but just mention the heat of summer combined with alcohol seems to be giving you a slight yeast infection every time you drink, and that you’re really not sure if that’s it but you’re trying to lay off alcohol and sugar for a while to see if that calms it down and restores your body’s natural balance.
She will probably probe a bit further, but just tell her you’re doing this to see if that might be contributing to it before going to the doctor.
OR, you could say your hormones are off balance and you been getting periods twice per month (mention it’s from switching birth controls or something, or if you weren’t on BC say you went on it since TTC hadn’t worked and you decided to not have a baby just yet)…so you’ve decided to refrain from drinking alcohol until your hormones get lined out. If you mention having had a period, then she wont attribute not drinking to being pregnant.
OR….even better… just say you’ve been feeling unwell, no energy, headaches, etc every time you drink alcohol so you’re taking it easy and trying to detox your body since you are TTC. And if she doesnt know you are trying to conceive, again, just say you’re trying to rid your body of toxins because it’s making you feel like shit the next day lol
I almost forgot…CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is a big deal especially after 15 months of ttc!

Dude you’re going to need your SO’s backup and fake drink all week. Switch drinks with him when he is done his, accept drinks and pour them out in small intervals when no one is looking, mix your own ‘drinks’, I find even just holding on to a drink people won’t notice. Whatever you do, don’t turn the first drink offered to you down or people are going to know.
I just went through the same thing (camping with ten friends, no one guessed). Good luck! Hope you are feeling good! I was throwing up in Porta potties all last weekend at 6.5 weeks.
it won’t be as hard as it seems!

I always pretended I was really hungover and couldn’t bear the thought of a drink, but since you have a week with these people, I suggest you pull off the fake drinking with hubbies help on night one, then on the second day report back that you were throwing up all night bceause of mixing alcohols or what not. Then milk the”I feel like death this hangover won’t go away” thing for a couple days, then fake drink again on the 4th night. This way you don’t have to fake drink non stop all day and all night every day, but there’s no question of your sobriety and you don’t have to talk about fake yeast infectioons LOL.

Good luck! I wasn’t able to hide it from my friends and my lack of drinking was part of the problem. I never felt like much of a lush until I realized how many situations I had to try to hide it…

I’ve been there multiple times! Once during a bachelorette party in Miami. Fake drinking is the way to go. People will be super suspicious if you normally would indulge and are not, no matter what your excuse. Mixing your own drinks is really the best way to go about it or having DH mix them for you and leave out the alcohol. I like the idea of PP who said filling a dark beer bottle with water. Last weekend when I was fake drinking we were having moscow mules, I made my own when everyone had gone out to the patio and just didn’t add the vodka. Worked like a charm, you just have to be sneaky!

I am so happy that you asked! I am facing an almost identical situation in two weeks when I am 6 weeks along.. LOVE the rinsing the beer bottle idea. That is what I will be doing!
Usually, I am known for mixing up awesome drinks in large pitchers (sangria for example) so I am also considering doing that and having a secret vigin version for myself.
