I was wondering if anyone has gotten a positive pregnancy test, experienced what could be called a period, and then have another positive pregnancy test?
A little background:
A week before AF was due, I suddenly hated the taste of coffee and had heartburn even though I wasn’t drinking coffee (which never happens). I’ve also been doing the Whole30 in January which made me acutely aware of these changes in how I was feeling. At the same time, I was feeling exhausted even though these were the days I was supposed to be feeling high-energy based on the Whole30 timeline. About 5 days before AF (last Tuesday), I started spotting, which continued on Wednesday. Wednesday morning I got a BFP.
On Thursday, I experienced period-like bleeding but it was very light compared to my other periods, like 1 pad’s worth the whole day, accompanied with cramps and passing a few small blood clots. Friday through today, I’ve been spotting. Friday morning, I took another test which was negative.
The problem is now I can’t figure out if I have had my period or if it was decidual bleeding. I am still feeling quite tired, have heartburn and my breasts are still sore.
Has anyone else experienced this and found out they were still pregnant? I have a regular doctor’s checkup on Jan 30 so I will explain the situation and ask for a more affirmative test. Just trying not to psych myself up too much until then. Thanks!!

Yes can be implantation bleeding! Take another test in a week.

lifeisbeeutiful : My sister had a “period” the entire time she was pregnant. It was pretty light, but bad enough where she had to wear a liner. She rushed to the doctor or hospital the first few times, but they convinved her nothing was wrong. I was 14 at the time, so I never leared what it was, but she had a happy/ healthy baby.

Did you take another test since Friday? I don’t think it’s a good sign if you got a positive Wednesday and a negative Friday. Were they different brands? If they were the same then I would think it was a chemical pregnancy. I would test again.

hollyberry4 : I did take another test Friday that came back negative. It was the ClearBlue Digital one. I opened up both the positive and negative tests–the positive one on Wednesday only had one line, while the negative one on Friday had 2 lines. This is also why I’m confused. I’ll take another test tomorrow morning.

christinakhar : Unfortunately it sounds like a chemical pregnancy to me. I had a similar situation, postiive test for a few days and then woke up to bleeding/clotting/painful cramps. Subsequent HPT were negative. I’m sorry for your loss.

christinakhar : hmm that is odd! Maybe one was a faulty test? I would test with a FRER. Digitals have a higher threshold for HCG and don’t detect as early as the frer. Keeping my finger crossed for you!

christinakhar : Also, digital (specifically clearblue) always have two lines if you open them up.

Update: I took another pregnancy test a few days after this post and it was again negative. It was a chemical pregnancy and the doctor said that this is a good sign that I can get pregnant again in the future.

christinakhar : I’m so sorry for your loss. 😔 Agreed that the silver lining is that you know you can get pregnant, which is a very good sign. Hang in there, bee!
