Hm! I haven’t had a cold but I have really bad allergies that cause sneezing, headaches, etc. And my doctor said taking tylenol was fine but don’t take Nyquil or Dayquil, etc. Sorry! That sucks!

Neti pot for sinus problems!!  Works for both colds and allergies, is completely safe for pregnant ladies. Also helps with the headache if it’s sinus-related.

When I had a cold (I teach Pre-K, germ heaven!) I took children’s Tylenol. I didn’t know the adult kind was fine.LMAO I was miserable. Try going to bed earlier if you aren’t already out by 8!LOL

I had a terrible cold when I was 7 months pregnant. My OBGYN suggested a saline nasal spray to help with congestion and decaf tea with honey for the sore throat. These home-type remedies helped a lot, especially since I was not allowed any over-the-counter medications due to pregnancy-related illness.

I got a cold right after finding out I was pregnant and my ob told me that regular robitussin (not the nighttime kind) was ok to take in addition to tylenol – but check with your ob to make sure they agree.  I also second a neti pot and and there are these shower thing (I can’t remember the name) that are like little tablets you set on the floor of your shower and it creates kind of a steam shower for you that helps (sorry I can’t remember the name).

Also, eat as healthy as you can, lots of soups and juices with good vitamins in them!

@ladyox:  They are shower soothers.  I love those too.

Also, sleep with a humidifier.  Other than that, the PP’s have already mentioned the only things I was able to do with a cold.

Pelikila just menitoned something I hadn’t thought of yet– when I wsa young I used to suffer horribly from asthma and colds and strep throat (I used to get strep EVERY month) and the only thing I could find relief in was steaming up my bathroom with the hot water from the shower and just sitting in the bathroom until I could feel my mental fog go away and I could breathe again.

You can also take Sudafed decongestant.  I looked it up and it is considered safe. It helps IMMENSELY.

I had lots of colds while pregnant.  I ended up on Pulmicort for nearly a month.  I did lots of nasal saline rinses for the stuffy nose.

Colds in pregnancy are just miserable.  Sorry you’re dealing with it.

“Any tips on what you can take…?”  I’d make a call to your doctor’s nurse for this one as I’m guessing the answer will vary among doctors and among patients.  My doctor’s response when I asked what I could take was “let me check your chart for your blood pressure today.”  It was low enough that she ok’ed a decongestant (can cause hypertension) and her reccommendation was Phenylephrine over Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), nasal spray over pill form.

“What you did to make yourself feel better?”  Steaming up the bathroom and sitting there for a while before going to bed at night, drinking sports drinks when I felt crazy dehydrated, and resting – a LOT.
