I have cervical osteo-arthritis (degeneration of the bones in my neck) and I typically take a collagen glucosamine supplement which helps.
But I haven’t taken it in 2 weeks since I thought I was prego, and I’ve taken nothing, I can already feel my neck starting to get stiff and uncomfortable – which worries me for how I’m going to feel as I get more pregnant.
Haven’t had a chance to ask my doctor yet – anyone else dealing with this and know what medications are safe to take??

A quick look through the BNF (British National Formulary) tells me that Glucosamine is not recommended by the manufaturer for use in pregnancy, but no details are given. Unfortunately a large number of drugs are not recommended in pregnancy as testing would be unethical (for obvious reasons!) and therefore potential side-effects cannot be ruled out.
Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) is considered safe in pregnancy, and can be effective. NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen (Advil)) are generally not recommended unless the benefit outweighs any risk, and shouldn’t be used in the later stages of pregnancy. Opiod analgesics (Morphine, Tramadol, Oxycodone etc) are also generally not advised, particularly in late pregnancy, due to withdrawal symptoms in the fetus and respiratory problems.
I hope that helps a bit. You should go to your doctor for further information, but unfortunately your options are relatively limited.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist

I’m just adding something so I can come back and read responses. I’m not pregnant but very curious about this topic.
