- Wedding: March 2011
So I have made ONE decision about the music. I’m sure I want something instrumental to walk down the aisle to, and at this point I am hoping my eldest son will play “I Can’t Help falling in Love” on acoustic guitar for that unless he chickens out last minute… but I have a million other unresolved wedding music questions.
For the prelude music, what is the average number of songs we should plan on playing? Our wedding will be in a small church with a small number of guests. We have 50 on the guest list and anticipate no more than 30 actually showing up… so I don’t imagine it will take that long for them to be seated. Is there a standard acceptable time they are expected to sit and wait?
Should the prelude music have lyrics or no? I know it’s ultimately up to us, just wondering what is typical.
How do I make the best use of my Celtic harpist who is very reasonable, while still having other music included? He will do 3 or 4 songs for a very reasonable amount of money, and I would like him to play “Ode to Joy” from Beethoven’s 9th for the recessional. Do you think that’s going to be upbeat enough on that instrument? Fiance and I both adore Beethoven. Plus, the harpist will cost the same for showing up, whether it’s 1 song or 4… so I hate to waste his talents with only one song.. ? I could ask him to play prelude music but I have no idea what else to choose.
I think our biggest problem is our PASSIONATE love of music from all genres and that makes it sooo very hard to pick, but on the other hand I really don’t want a crazy mish mash. We have considered “Baby I love You” by the Ramones as a recessional. R.I.P. Joey! We originally wanted Lonestar’s “Amazed” (it’s kind of “our” song) but didn’t know where to put it. We tallked about “Come Rain or Come Shine”, Billie Holiday’s version. We talked about Ani DiFranco’s “Falling is Like This” and a bunch of others. We like a LOT of music and with a small wedding we can’t fit it all in, so I am leaning towards just sticking with the harpist and my son doing the processional..just to make it simple.. but I don’t know if I am content with that yet.
Should the music, overall, be cohesive? Sorry, I just have so much indecision and very little knowledge on how to work it all out.
